I own a 14 Sierra 6.2, and my wife has a new Yukon with the 6.2 as well.

Im looking for a new work truck and its either an F150 or a new Gm product w the 5.3.

One of my dept. Does pull a trailer about 4-6 days a week. He has a 12 Tundra now, and my other 2 in that dept has F150's.

The trailer is about 8000lbs, and with all his other equipment its roughly 9500lbs.

My fords have now issue with it and still get decent mpg for towing, but my Tundra sucks gas!

So with that in mind, do you guys tow, whats the average mpg if so.

And the 2500 with the 6.0 is out of the question.

Thanks in advance!

I can't speak for the mpg, but if you need to tow 9,500 lbs with the 5.3 you'll need the 3.73 gears in order to do it safely. The 3.42 would be right at the limit when towing 9,500 lbs.

But why not get another 6.2? Are you looking for better gas mileage because I don't think it's much of a difference, especially since you'll need 3.73 gears. Especially if you get a '15 with a 6.2 and 8 speed.

I wouldn't rule out a 2500 since they're made for towing on a regular basis and you actually get more for what you pay for with a 3/4 ton.

i dont understand how you can need to tow a 9500lb trailer and be worried about gas mileage. thats a heavy trailer for any 1500 vehicle i don't care what package. especially for 4 days a week? you should go atleast 2500.

Why is a 2500 out of the question? For towing often an HD is a no brainer.

Not until the redesign a motor for it. I have had 3 2500hd w the 6.0 on my fleet, complete garbage. Imo.

I have yet yo find a WT edition w a 6.2 in it. Hell its hard enough to find a 5.3, w 3.73 in it.

These are WORK TRUCKS, you would think GM, would have every motor and gear option available for them.

The most common motor and gear ratio in the WT is the 4.3 w 3.08 gears.

Well, my Fords average 11-14mpg's towing. My Tundra gets 7-10... i know gas is cheap now, but thats nuts. And when we had are 6.0 Vortec average 8-9.

I have had Fords and Chevys, but i never was a fan of the Vortec motor...

I love the new ones, they are awesome.

There isnt a WT with a 6.2. For that you have to drop the big coin on top trim for that

I know.. not what i really want to do. And im not paying more for a new body style w the grab 6.0.

However, i could give up mine, and go get a 15 w the new 8 speed tranny.... But i would never hear the end of it.....

I just wanted to throw it out there and see what and how the power is in the new 5.3 and towing...
