Tire Pressure?????

Recommended Posts

OK

I have had many vehicles, but I'm confused on the tire pressure off the 2500HD. I have a 2003 2500HD and the tie pressure from the factory is 60 Front 80 Rear. Of course I pick the truck up and I have 4 different tire pressure in each tire rangeing from 36 to 48.

I have been reading a little on-line and so many different suggestions. I figure if I'm towing or plowing I'll go with the recomend 60/80, but with nothing it seems excesive. I'm currently at 40 all around because the local gas station doesn't fill any higher than 40 and I figured thats better than what the dealer gave me 36/44/40/48.

The last truck I had was an 86 k1500 with 32" BF'S and I ran 36 and 30 in the rear. The LT tire is throwing me off.

Help.

Thanks

Before I switched over to the 265's I ran my stock Firestones at 55 front and 50 rear.  That seemed to give the best contact patch.

I run my 265 Michelins at 50 PSI all the way around.  They have been on the truck for about 4500 miles and are showing no signs of cupping etc...

I run 45 all around....non tow...and 55 when towing in my 02 HD. The best thing to do is run a pressure that you feel comfortable with for a few 1000 miles - then check the tire  wear. When I ran 55 all around empty....I had center tire wear..so I lowered it to 45...that seems to be the best pressure for me. Plus - dont forget to rotate 7500 miles.

The 80 in the rear is MAX pressure...unless you are towing a house...I dont think you will need that much pressure...Plus you truck will ride like a rock !!

Just my 2 cents

Welcome to the forum...

When I had the stock tires on I ran 55 front and 50 rear, but I like a firm ride. I think 40 is perhaps a bit low, but anything 45 or more should be okay.

I run 55 front and 80 rear for towing a little over 9,000# the stability is much better; when not towing i like to run 45# all around. Your dealer must have been setting your tires for a NASCAR race.  :flag:  :flag:

Run 90 psi all the way around...

no wonder why your bfgs only last 10K miles

i run 40, what do others go to with 285's?

My 285's max at 65, so I run 45 front and 40 rear. If I load the bed, or I'm towing, I'll set the rears at 55-60.

I just checked my tires today and set my 265/75 load range D at 46 psi cold each tire. With a plow on or my travel trailer I'll bump that axle up to 56 psi cold. The front really needs the extra 10-12 psi for the plow-7 1/2 western pro plow, but the rear doesn't seem bad even if left at 46 psi.My trailer is 27 feet and about 4900 dry and closer to 6000 loaded. I sometimes wish I left my load range E tires on but the 8 ply D seem just fine.God bless America and all our soldiers and vets. :chevy:  :flag:  :flag:

No to be honest I think that just over use wore the tires out.. I've yet to have a tire last over 20K...Lots and lots of pulling plus lots of driving, heavy loads, and many drivers that don't care about the truck are all factors in the tires life.. Our Cummins has had great luck out of Michellen LTX's so I might go with a set....I don't care about look any more just want some life out of them..
