I was just in a head on collision....

.... with my brother

.... on my driveway!

http://www.redlineenterprises.com/crash/

He was coming down too fast for the icy conditions... 15, maybe 20 mph. I was going up at 10-15 mph. I saw him coming and was able to stop, but was unable to put it in reverse (whether from the deer-in-headlights effect, or fear of going off the edge behind me. He tried everything he could to stop but it was futile when he's going down an icy incline at 15-20 mph.

First off, we're both ok. He's really pissed at himself, and depressed, as I can immagine he is. I'm not upset with him... sh*t happens. I just wish I could have/would have put it in reverse and at least somewhat reduce the damage.

When he hit, I was stopped and my brakes were locked, he pushed me back about 5 feet. Granted, it was icy, but still yet.

The only damage to my truck is the bent bumper. His Blazer, on the other hand, is pretty f*cked up, as you can see in the pictures. The push-bar absorbed the entire impact and concentrated the impact more towards the center of the hood/radiator area, saving damage to the quarterpanel and headlights and battery, etc. My truck's ride height compared to his, my bumper would have hit SQUARE in the headlight/grill reigon if not for the push-bar to direct it to the center. I'm still not sure if it helped or made it worse, but it was damaged badly by the ipact.

His radiator was smashed into the fan, the A/C Condensor may be damaged, and we won't be sure until it's warm enough to test it, and the hood is toast. I don't think it's totaled, in the sense that we can probably find most of the body parts in a junk yard for pretty cheap.

Amazingly, no glass was broken. His 2 KC are damaged, but the glass remained in tact. The filiment came off the electrodes on both of them, but I believe KC makes replacement sealed beam/bulbs for their lights. The housings are dented, but in tact.

He learned a valuable lesson today. Ice + speed = NO STOPEY! He's only 15 (yes, you can get your Driver's License at 15 up here) and has alot of driving experience to gain, it's just too bad he has to learn in an expensive way. Neither of us have collision insurance on the vehicles involved

glad no one got hurt.  Glad your not to upset and tell him not to take it so hard.

Those first two lines wasn't exactly what I was expecting to read when I clicked on this topic.  Its good to hear that nobody got hurt, and you aren't to pissed about things.

btw, you got to love those real bumpers on the older trucks.  Try that with a new truck and it would have looked just about like the blazer.

Sorry to hear about the incident.

Got a couple questions....

1. What state do you live in? Do you live in canada?

2. (Sorry if this sounds stupid) Were the pics of the trucks taken at the accident scene w/out either of you moving the vehicles?

1) Looks like JP covered that :D.   I'm in Western Montana... bout 100 miles south of the US/Alberta, Canada border.

2)  Yes, the pics were taken at the scene, without moving either vehicle.....  that's where they both came to rest.

*sigh* ???  I feel so bad for the poor little guy.  There was really nothing I could have done to prevent it, but he's so depressed.  He saved up his allowance for months and worked slave labor at a go-kart track last summer to buy those KC's and the push bar.... just to have them smashed in a split second today.  He's so depressed and I just feel so saddened for him.  Granted, it was his fault for going too fast for the icy conditions, but I still feel so bad for him  :):D

Thats an amazing impact for such a low speed collision.  Glad you're OK, sorry for the kid though.  That looks like he hit a phone pole.  Scary.

I learned my lesson a few years ago when I rolled my beloved CJ-7 and had no collision.  Insurance would've written it off as totalled and I could've gotten paid.  Instead I had to swallow the loss and sell it off for parts.

Be a good, albeit hard, lesson for him to remember in the future.  Costing ourselves is how we all learn -  ???

PS - nice driveway!
