Cargo Lights On In Reverse via button on console.

Does anyone know if the dealers can program the cargo light button to allow the cargo lights to be turned on while in reverse on a 2014 1500?

 

I've played around with a friend's 2015 2500 and his truck allows the cargo lights to be turned on in reverse via the cargo light button (as well as Park and Neutral).

 

Going back to my truck it seems I can flip them on only while in Park and Neutral. This seems like a computer setting to me but figured I'd ask to see if anyone has explored this.

Not answering your question, but I wish they would allow you to turn it on while driving cause when I haul stuff at night I would like to be able to check my load without pulling over

You can do it with a $1 diode from Radio Shack. The cargo lights will work in reverse and when you unlock the truck.

Problem with this it that I don't ALWAYS want them to come on while in reverse. Just would like the option to turn them on while in reverse like the 2500's have.

^well maybe you can rig up a switch using those two wires as identified in that link. Otherwise I don't think you'll get the factory cargo switch to work that way, since it's probably programmed by the BCM to not work in reverse (or drive).

That is what I was wondering, if it is a BCM setting and it is turned on in the 2500's maybe it can be programmed? Anyone have knowledge into what programming options are available at the BCM level by a GM Tech?
