The tire size struggle

Thanks. I'm leaning towards 305/65 because I think I will be unhappy with a 305/60. However, I still could get 17s and run 295/70/17. Still unsure.

 

Good luck with the clearance. I think your approach of picking a tire based on what you think looks good, without measuring, might work out fine....maybe.

Obviously I'm going off of looks. I could get 305/60 likes yours, but I don't think I would be happy with that size, as they are actually closer to a 32.5, not a 33. Aslo, when I'm dealing with tight clearances, not every brand of tire is the same, even though they are the same size. I don't want to spend money on a size that I'm not going to be happy with. I've been researching for a while now. I'm not just throwing out random numbers like you believe I am. I do appreciate the help.

Why not just measure the clearance that you have now, then do some simple math? This will tell you what you need to select a tire size and wheel offset. My approach was to measure before I leveled the front, since I actually turn my wheels and hit bumps at the same time. Others are happy with clearance when setting still. Some are content with some level of interference when turning.

 

Run your driver seat all the way forward, start the truck, turn the steering wheel all the way to the stop, loop the seat belt thru the steering wheel, leave it running, measure the clearances front, back and sides of the tire, turn the wheels the opposite direction and repeat. You can then calculate the clearance of any tire/wheel combo.

 

...or you can buy wheels and tires based on the look you like and modify the truck to fit.

 

There really isn't any mystique nor rocket science going on here.

That's over 34" tall correct? And still pretty wide. I like 295/65/18s also, but really leaning towards nitto Terra grapplers and they are not in that size

Yeah I think it's like 34.2" but it's not as wide as the 305's you're looking at. Maybe that size is too big, I'm not sure. I was just trying to give you another idea. A couple other companies make a 285/70/18 as well. Best of luck finding something you like.

That's what I thought. I really don't need mud terrains, so I figured a semi-aggressive all terrain would work good for me. More life and a little less money

That is 1/4 inch larger on top and on bottom.

 

So the truck would sit 1/4 inch taller?

I understand what you're saying, but I was comparing a 305/60 to a 305/65, which is roughly a 32.5 and a 33.5. I've looked at multiple trucks and wasn't happy with how 305/60's looked. Maybe I'm crazy, but I can easily tell the difference. If you buy my tires, then I'll get the 305/60's, but I'll probably get what I want instead. I've decided on 17" rims now with a 295/70/17

i put 31 's on my 4 in lift in a 17 in rim and they rubber the upper control arm mind uido have a 4 in lift fabtech u need with the fabtech a dif offset for sure
