2011 anti-freeze

My 2011 truck, with 45,000 miles. (Escalade still under factory warranty). The dealer is trying to sell me a coolant change. He says it only is testing for +15 degrees protection.

 

Isn't the coolant rated for 5 years from the factory, down to minus 20 ?? I didn't give him the job, as I call BS on the whole thing.

 

He is telling me the coolant breaks down over time, and isn't covered.

 

What is the truth ??

Coolant is not covered,its a maintenance item.

The GM-Dexcool is good for 5 yrs/150,000 miles,you are close to the 5 yr. side of it,you could also check yourself if you have a tester,my opinion....get yourself a gallon of Dex-Cool,and a gallon of distilled water (do NOT use tap water) and change it out,you can do it yourself in an hour or so easy!

Have it checked at any auto parts store. Even if it's good, I'd plan on dumping it soon and going with a fresh fill

Check the lower rad hose while you are at it, and get rid of those idiotic spring clamps. Put a traditional clamp on it.
