AN Fittings need help

Recommended Posts

The old lady hit a deer tonight in the 99 2500, The only damage was it put its head through the grill and smashed my trans cooler causing a tranny line to break. It also bent my condenser and put a small ding in the hood. I plan to upgrade the trans cooler and replace the rusty tranny lines with braided hoses and AN fitting, The problem is I am a complete noob and don't know what to buy. Can anyone who has done this help me out? Thanks

-6 size. Steel braided teflon hose. Here is my cooler. A 2 pass like this is almost like having 2 coolers because the fluild has to run through it twice.

Yep that's Teflon ... but it's used in a myriad of applications besides frying pans. Fireworks, armor-piercing ammo, tubing, "Teflon tape", etc etc ...

It's strong stuff.

Awesome, Thank you.

Okay, One last question for anyone who can answer it. I already found the AN fittings I will need...

And the transmission adapter fittings

But how do I determine what adapter fittings I will need for the radiator/cooler? And they don't seem to make very many different variations in size/thread pattern or at least I can't find where they are hiding them. Thanks again

Easy way is if you have a second vehicle, pop the fittings out. Drive to your local hydraulic shop and have them match the trans and radio sides to a fitting where the other side is a male -6 AN. I think on my trans noth fittings are 90's ir 45's and my top radiator fitting is a 90.

Here is my cooler. I pluged the NPT port, and ran -12 to -6 AN adapters on the AN ports.

Thanks, I would do that but I live in hillbilly country and the nearest one is close to 50 miles away. It looks like I have everything figured out except the radiator fittings so I will pull one of later and measure it with a dial caliper and see if I can find a match online. I do plan on getting that same trans cooler you have, It looks nice. You used aluminum angle stock to mount it, Right?

I actually went back to the stock bracket on the lower side. I made a measuring mistake on the aluminum. The upper is aluminum flat bar. It is held to the support with self tappers.

When i go out to start some laundry i will snap some pics for you. The fitting with the long tail on it, i didnt use. And if you havent assembled a teflon hose before, go to a hydraulic shop to have them made

Difficult photo off trans. Both are sweeping 90's

Lower radiator looks like a 45

Upper radiator is the same 90 as the trans

They are on the hose not seperate fittings except the 45

Thanks for the pictures I appreciate it and now I know I will be needing a 45 for sure. I needed to order a tool to help me determine what threads I need so I am at a standstill until it gets here. Thanks for the advice but I think I'm going to go ahead and give it a shot, I have watched a few videos about assembling the teflon hose and I feel pretty confident now that I can do it and if I do screw it up at least it won't be on a brake line lol.

Make sure to use masking tape before you cut. And use a hacksaw to cut. I was an aircraft hydraulic tech in a past life. I know a little about what i am taking about
