Learn something new every day! Guess the electronics need the fluid to be a certain temp for everything to work, because this was never needed in the past.

Where is that contraption located? In the trans body, or in the cooler, or line?

Ahh that explains it.

On the subject of tranny temps, I remember this exact chart on the back of a tranny cooler box - I had bought it for my '86 Grand Marquis in preparation for the 2,600 mile drive towing a U-Haul. It's stuck with me ever since.

Ok thanks, It sounds like maybe I should think about covering it in the winter and I should make fixing the trans temp gauge a higher priority.

Well, went out and hooked up my scanner to do a gauge sweep test to see if the stepper motor was why my trans gauge won't move and found out on my 99 I can only test the Speed, Tach, Fuel, and Water gauges... It doesn't even list the Oil, Volt, Or Trans oil gauges, I can monitor those things though. It lists/tests them individually unlike my 03 which does a sweep of all gauges at once. So I guess I will have to wait until I get my new parts on and monitor it and see if the temp reads on my scanner to tell if it is the gauge/wiring or sensor.

Ok, I have all my parts. When I went out to measure the length I needed to cut I realized just how tight it is where the lines go into the tranny. It looks like I will have to pull the exhaust and this exhaust bracket.

I felt around and can't feel any thing holding it on, I googled it and I think it's supposed to be allen screws but I can't feel any.. Hopefully after removing those two thing I will have enough room.

Hmm, I can't even reach the front trans line with my bare hand let alone the rear one. The pic shows the front one hiding up in there and my forearm gets caught between the exhaust and the torsion bar.

Well one difference is i have a 60E

Yeah, I think on my 03 with the 4l60E the y-pipe is already a single exhaust by that point and it is smaller which would probably give me the room I need. It also has the trans lines right by each other which would make it a lot easier. I wish I were working on the other truck.
