Air Horn Recommendations??

Recommended Posts

Looking to add some sort of Air Horn kit to the Silverado. Not looking for a system that will require a huge air tank and compressor. Basically, the loudest, and best kit for lets say under $200...

Who has added one, had one, or know's enough about these to shed some light?

I picked up a horn at a scrap yard and bought a portable air tank to put in the bed. Was cheap setup and sounded good. Far as kits, im no help.

Try out hornblasters nothing but good reviews from them. Looking to pair up with them on the build once I lift my truck. The prices are a little higher but they have some horns in you price range. Worth a look

I had one installed on my Avalanche, not sure the brand, after a gang of thieves tried stealing it. I tied into my alarm system, in hopes to scare the crap out of them if it happened again... Another thing to consider, see if you can put a fitting on the tank for an air hose.. I had to use mine a few times!

I wish I had room under the hood. Having a 2500 with a Diesel in it, dual battery's and alternators, there is barely any room.

I could be wrong but do the diesels have a lot of room under them? Like under the bed? Or somewhere along the bottom? I think I remember seeing someone on insta put the tank underneath his 15 2500 Sierra

I was looking at my truck today and I could fit a 5 gallon tank compressor and horns under the box on the passenger side.

Here's a genuine locomotive air horn. Arguably the loudest thing you're likely to find....but expensive and air-hungry.

Worth it if you want REALLY LOUD!

These things are so loud a deaf man even thinks they're loud!

They'll almost blow a woman's clothes off.

Is that legal to have on the street :)

I had a set of Nathan Chimes Locomotive horns on my 1989 RCSB Stepside Silverado facing to the rear and I had the truck backed up to the front window at the local NAPA store and shattered it on a bet. Are they Legal...LMAO! HELL NO!!

a quick revival for this thread as I had an idea on a place to put an air tank, I was thinking maybe it could be mounted in that open space behind the front bumper. Ive seen a winch mounted there before and there is a fair amount of space (I can only speak for the 1500s, I haven't looked on a 2500). But I was wondering what the largest size air tank that one could fit there. I want either a 2 gallon or 3 gallon air tank and its own compressor. If you could fit a tank and compressor at this spot then you could have the horns somewhere on the truck and have an easily accessible air hose for filling tires or air bags. Could put the hose under the hood

random thought I had last night, let me know what y'all think and if this could work! If you think it could work, how large of a tank do you thin could fit?

Hmm, that's a thought.. I'll have to look under the front and see if I can make something work there if I don't find a smaller setup.

I went and looked at the spot earlier. On the 1500s in sure that one could fit at least a 2 gallon tank, probably even a 3gallon but it'd start to get tight with the compressor also.

On top of that I even thought of a better way to run the air hose(s). I am thinking if you get 2 distributor blocks, one w/ 2 outlets, and the other with 3, then you could do this:

From the tank, run a short hose up to the first distributor block which is mounted in the engine compartment, that distributor block will have an outlet that goes to the air horn and another outlet that connects to a hose that goes to the back of the truck. This hose runs to the bed where the 2nd distributor block is mounted high on the wall so it's mostly out of the way and out of sight but still easily accessible, whether the truck is lifted or not, also having this be a 3 port distributor block is important so that you can have air bags, if you hard hose (term derived from hardwiring) the bags to the block individually (PS, I should've mentioned earlier that each outlet of the distributor block will be shut off valves so that you can open and close the air flow supply), since the bags are connected to the block independently, they can be filled independently and be sealed so that air cannot transfer from one to the other. Then the 3rd outlet can have a female or male quick disconnect and a shut off valve so that you can connect an AUX air hose to the outlet and fill up tires or whatever the need be. This set up, rather than using Schrader valves to fill the bags, you don't have to hold the Schrader valve to release the air, rather you can just shut off the valve that allows air to flow from the front distributor block to the rear distributor, open the aux valve (this is where having it be a male quick disconnect is better since it will allow the air to flow out if the valve is open whereas a female quick disconnect needs to be connected to a male disconnect before it will allow air to flow), once the distributor is shut off from the tank and the AUX valve is open, you can just open up both bag valves and allow the bags to empty.

I think this would be a great set up. Only thing is, just for safety to not overfill the bags, you may want to put a regulator or at least a gauge on the bag valves so that you know how pressurized it is so that you do not overfill them and pop them.

The thing I like most about this set up is that each way that the air can go, you can shut off the air from going to any other part of the system and just run one part, or if you are going to be away from the truck for an extended time, you can easily purge the system and shut off the horn. Or if someone is going to use your truck and you don't want them to accidentally hit the horn then you can disable it

Sorry for the slight thread jack, but the idea did start with an air horn and then in my mind it branched from there haha

    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
    • He is not saying that an SAE *W20 will have more viscosity than a *W40 due to MORE VII polymers. He is saying that although multiple *W40 may post in the PDS the same or similar 100 C and 150 C viscosities that the blenders choice of modifier TYPE and AMOUNT to get his chosen base to grade will not give identical real world viscosities in shear and at temperature. All will pass the SII test but not all will pass the 100 C HTHS (unpublished value) testing the blender does and relies on to get the required by law "percentage improvement' referenced to his last great work.    Tis the problem with the lie. Once told others are required to support it.
    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.

REAR AXLE - 3.73 RATIO INC. GVWR, 11,350 LBS. (5148 KG) INC. FRONT AND REAR PARK ASSIST, INC. ULTRASONIC     I have been launching my new boat and noticed some things related to the parking brake.. I usually set the parking brake (habit) when on flat ground for typical driving.    When backed down on the launch ramp to launch the boat and I place gear selector into Park, the parking brake activates automatically. My second nature is to set parking brake manually and noticed I was turing the parking brake off.  The parking brake appears to be setting itself automatically.   I looked all over my owner's manual and only found references to being on an incline and manually setting parking brake, or at times parking brake will be auto engaged, but nothing specific to my situation.    When is the parking brake automatically engaged?  Under what specific circumstances?  Can the auto set parameters be changed?     I like the auto set feature.  It would be nice if always engaged when shifted into Park and released when shifted out of Park (like my wifes 2025 RAV4).   Thanks!
