I have a 2009 GMC SIERRA SLE 4X4 EXTEND CAB and was wondering if anyone knows what's all involved in going from a 4.8l to a 5.3l, meaning, will exhaust, wirinwiring will the computer work

If it is from the same year all you should need is a tune

I swapped my 4.8 with a 5.3 and changed NOTHING else.

Even used the intake manifold, injectors and fuel rails off the old 4.8 because the ones on the 5.3 were gunked up with goo from sitting in the junk yard.

Sure, It might benefit from a tune... but it's been running like a raped ape for 3 years now without it.

So if I were to go with a 5.3, it should fit and work fine without any modifications and won't have to replace the cpu or anything, is that right?

Yes, but i think 09 5.3's had VVT. It should be tuned

Correct, they also have AFM where as the 4.8L he wants to replace did not.

The ECM may need to be reprogrammed for the AFM engine. The 4.8 software won't work properly with the AFM system, if not programmed.
