zone aka flywheel brake cable for Poulan Pro push mower

My trusty ol' Poulan Pro push mower appears to have the flywheel brake cable stretched.

Not surprising after @10 years and lots of mowing.

Bad news: I can not find my manual for a part number of the cable or the mower itself. Worse news: The deck cracked or rusted out in a spot 2 years ago and someone gave me a deck from a Crafstman mower, so no part number help there.

The cable is @ 59" long. Most of what I find are 53" or shorter.

I have been using combination of Google and Amazon to find what I can.

Anyone a mower parts guru or can point me to what I am missing?

I have looked up the cable for the donor Craftsman mower but it is @51" long.

Do you have a small engine shop near by? Typically they can pull the numbers off the engine and look it for parts. Also isn't Poulan Pro a Sears type brand? You may be able to go to your local Sears for some help as well.

I do have the manual and Briggs engine number (from the plate on the engine). But I think the cable is specific to the deck/handle combo.

Was trying to avoid the local repair shop because they have a 4 week lead time but I think I will take your suggestion and run the cable over there and see if they can help from that.

I took the cable all the way off to double check the length and noticed it was a little stiff. Used my oil extractor to draw some light cleaner through it until it was 100% free then followed with some Teflon cable lube. The brake is releasing much further now, so I am happy about that. Still going to try and get a replacement.

Well I learned something. These steel braid cables on mowers never stretch. They only break. At least according to the parts person at the local repair shop.

Wow. Why don't they use this stuff on e-brake cables, farm equipment, or any number of industrial stuff I worked on that stretched even slightly over time? Wouldn't take much to affect the geometry of the brake and switch.
