2015 Sierra radio "issue"

I have a 2015 Sierra 4x4 SLE and I'm now having some "issues" with the radio. When I turn it off, the next time I restart the truck it sometimes takes a long time to get an XM station. And one time when I started it I had NO stations at all (no XM< FM or AM). When I restarted it all was fine. No when I use XM I can't rewind or pause the station. I know these features work as a friend of mine just bought a new truck that is identical to mine. I'm thinking my radio is messed up but was wondering if anyone else has had these problems and what they did to fix it. Mine will head back to the dealer soon.

Sounds like something is having trouble on the GMLAN. Very possibly radio. Need dealer tools or a bus analyzer to sniff it out. Under warranty so.....

Not sure what the GMLAN is CDFIXER, but the dealer will get it back for sure to check things out. Just want to make sure I have all my facts so the dealer can't just "blow me off" or tell me they can't find a problem.

By GMLAN, I mean the data connection between your radio and XM unit. From what you described it sounds like the radio could not find or 'understand' the XM unit when powered up. Powering up the system, changing channels, etc should all be pretty quickly accomplished. If the radio and/or XM unit have to request retries for the data being sent/expected due to corruption, missing, bad timing, etc then all sorts of fun ensues. Could be a bad radio, could be a bad XM unit, could be wiring issues (noise, poor connection, etc), could be a poor solder joint at a bus terminator, etc etc.

The dealer is probably best equipped to find this. You have a warranty stick on em' until they make your expensive truck right!

Thanks for explaining CDFIXER. I have had times when changing channels have taken a bit more time than others so the data connection might be it. I'm kind of hoping that I don't have to replace the radio but I have the dealer on it now.

Hi snikr,

I'm sorry for the delay you're experiencing with the XM radio channels in your Sierra. I can understand how frustrating this might be. Personally, I would be lost if I couldn't listen to my favorite radio stations on my drive to work. However, I'm happy to hear you've already taken your vehicle in to the dealership! Have they been able to provide you with any updates? If not, please let us know if we can help!

Thanks,

The radio seems to have "corrected" itself. Everything seems to work OK now. I still will have the dealer check it out. Now if I could just get bulbs to fix the subpar lights on my GMC.
