sudden transmission problem

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a 2004 2500hd 2wd 6.0. With 180k miles. This afternoon i started the truck and the transmission wouldn't engage into any forward gear. Reverse works fine but if i shift to drive it is like being in neutral. I checked the linkage and manually made sure it was positioning properly. Tranny fluid is good and doesn't smell burnt. I've never had and slippage or problems. Seems electrical but I'm not sure. I've had the truck about a year it was well maintained by the previous owner.

Any suggestions?

Scan it for codes .

 

Check manual 1st gear , see if that works ,

 

Does the oil level stay the same running and not running

you actually tried the shifter from Park all the way straight down to what would be "L" - all the way down - 1 (?)
