Chadwilliam1 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I just bought a 2015 Sierra and It came with the On Star trial like they all do. I have some questions about it. My truck has built in navigation. Do i need on star to continue to use that after the free trial? Do you guys have on-star it looks pretty expensive $40 a month. Thanks Chad
SouthernSilveradoGuy85 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Are you talking about the factory built in Nav or the OnStar nav? If you have factory Nav then no you don't need OnStar, it's separate. As for OnStar Nav you have to pay an extra $10 per month for the most basic Nav there is and it's not worth it. To make it worse you don't even put in the address or anything, you have to call a rep so they look it up and sent it to the truck which is stupid. If you don't have the built in factory Nav just use your phone if you have a smartphone, it's what I've always done. As for paying for OnStar, just get whatever you want that DOESN'T include the Nav. Just go to the website and look at the different plans they have. I pay $25 a month and I believe I get everything OnStar offers except for their Nav which again it's worth the extra $10 a month. It's not even worth it for free too be honest.
Chadwilliam1 Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 It is built in, I have an app on my 8" screen that says navigation that I can select. I didnt care if my truck had nav but the model they found had so I took it. My wife's Acadia she calls on star for her nav and they send it to her screen. She got that about 4 months ago. I guess that is a 120 day trial but she wants me to keep that going. I suggested just using your phone but she likes it on her screen. My dealer told me on stars prices are negotiable.
Gryphon762mm Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 My OnStar subscription is about to expire and there is no way I can justify the prices they're asking for the features they're delivering. Truck has built in nav and if it didn't, I'd use my smartphone anyways. I don't think I've used OnStar once except the phone because the truck came with free minutes. My subscription renewal came in the mail and for all three Guidance, Security, and Protection plans they want over a grand per year!? Not a chance.
