Bully dog Gt tuner

Does the bully dog tuner need to be plugged in all the time for it to work? I recently broke a wire to it and didn't think nothing of it just unplugged it, started my truck and it wouldn't shift gears. I stopped reset codes and it still wouldn't shift, I ran and got a new hdmi cord and plugged in the tunner and erased codes from the computer and it all of a sudden started to shift gears and ran like nothing was wrong. any ideas on what would cause it!!!

I think it's supposed to... I run the stock tune though and just use mine as an extra set of gauges... If I remember correctly the instructions say the truck will malfunction without the SD card, and if the HDMI is bad then the SD card is not being read.

Like I said, I only use mine as extra gauges, and for that I like it. Didn't notice much of a difference with the tune so I uninstalled it.

The tune isn't... But having mph, engine load, voltage, coolant, and tranny temp all in one place has made it worth it for me while I'm towing

I got the unit when I bought my used truck. Definitely see a difference in the shift points and power. With the performance tune on 93 octane I see a definite increase. I use it for towing my travel trailer. The gauges are awesome for towing and easily adjustable and the power helps towing.

When you plug it in, does it ask you if you want to install the software? or do you hsve to do it?

Can you view oil pressure too? What about codes?

You initiate the install, you don't have to do anything. Yes I believe you can see oil pressure, there's a ton of options but only 4 numbers display, 5 if you use the "driving coach" screen to display the MPG. There's a ton of options to display, it will show just about any numerical measurement that the ECM calculates.

I also use it to read and clear any CEL codes, but it doesn't read off anything other than the ECM that I know of.
