Weird noise

Recommended Posts

Posted

I started my truck this morning and started driving and all of a sudden I got a humming noise.  Sounded like an electric motor that has run out of oil in the bushings.  I couldn't really find the noise but it went away about 1 min after it started.  It is really rainy so could it just have been the moister in a fan or wiper motor or something like that?  Was just really wierd.

Thanks in advance.

Brandon -- it could be the fan that is behind the radio system in the dash.  I believe it is there to cool that area down since it gets so hot when it's on.  I could be wrong, but I've definitely heard that on my Yukon quite often.  Anyone else think it might be this?  If it's this, it is normal, I believe.

Jersey,

I know exactly what you are talking about - mine comes on randomly and I didn't know what it was at first.  It really frustrated me, so I ended up pulling out the radio to find that there was a fan back there.  The way my fan sounds doesn't fit the description of what Brandon is talking about - mine usually comes on after the truck has warmed up a bit, and it sounds like his was cold.  No suggestions.

Might be the bearings in the blower motor for the HVAC system starting to go bad.

Mine would squeak every now and then for a few months, and then....snap, crackle, pop......the elves took it to the land of Og.

They are about 30-50 smackers, depending on who you call.
