exhaust swap???

on my 1996 k1500 with a 350 vortec I currently have a dual cat into dual cherry bombs and exits out the side. the exhaust from the cats back is 2.25" and from the headers to the cats its the crappy 1 7/8" stuff. On my dads K2500 it has the 2 3/4" exhaust from the headers back that struck my interest so I did some reading about it and wondered how much difference that would actually make.I have thought swapping out for the bigger but lost interest about this before but today I came across a forum where someone was saying that they gained about 2 mpg from doing the swap with the bigger pipe and bigger exhaust.

 

how much difference would this make?

 

which would be easier to have some pipes custom bent and put in or to find a 2500 truck and just take the exhaust off of it?? the shapes are almost exactly the same.

 

the only issues I can see is that the rear O2 sensor looks like it would need to be longer and are the header flanges the same?? they are both 350 vortecs so I would think so but Im not sure.

 

what do exhaust shops generally charge??

 

My future plans or possibilities for the truck is a black bear performance tune and a set of shorty headers. My concern with the headers is that I dont want to have exhaust leaks and warping/heat issues with them.
