Cam and Rockers

I had an email exchange with Crane Cams last week about what camshaft to install in my 06 with a 5.3L in it. Greg suggested the 144541 cam with 1.8 rockers for my particular setup. After shopping around, I have come to the realization that 1.8 rockers are not cheap. Is it possible to use the LS7 exhaust non offset rockers in a 5.3 for both intake and exhaust?

For those that are curious, the cam specs out at 262/272, 200/208 at .050 and .502 lift with 1.7's .532 lift with 1.8's.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

That is definitely a question you would want to ask the guys at Crane Cams. I am sure they would be able to tell you if that would work properly.

They recommend certain parts for a reason. You should take their advice and go with the 1.8's like suggested. Performance upgrades and quality parts are not cheap but are well worth the price.

Most builders stay away from 1.8s. Factory 1.7 rockers work great, just choose the right cam to get the lift you want. I've recently dealt with John at ljms / Brian tooley racing. Maybe give them a call. Check out their truck line of cams too. Local shop/ tuner turned me away from rockers when I was building my lq9.

The factory rockers are a well made light weight piece. Most aftermarkets add a bunch of weight to the valve train for no real gain. I mean you can go roller tip but is that worth the extra stress from the weight... likely not. I just add the comp or Brian tooley trunion kit to them and run stock ones. If you want more lift just increase the lobe lift on the cam.

So after a little more research, I have decided to go with a 54-424-11 from Comp Cams. It requires a spring change, but that is ok to me. Now all I need is money. Santa is still a ways away.

I need some help!

I need more power for my 2010 4.8L Sierra. I added a lift level kit and some larger tires and I lost a lot. I added cold air intake, better plugs and wires, and dynomax exhaust. That did help some. I was thinking of timing chain and gears with a new cam, plus some better lifters. Is that going to be enough? And what brands a god mix to have?

How much bigger did you go on the tires? There are plenty of gear calculators on the internet to help decide which gears to use to get back to the rpm you want.
