alright ive been looking at a 1990s gmc 1500 ext cab not sure what year it is but its for 900 dollars the problems that are my main concerns are that the engine skips and it has 300k on it it will be my first vehicle and i wanna learn how to work on trucks and cars myself so is it worth it i dont mind putting a little money into it i always liked this body style

have the engine or transmission been replaced? I bet one or both have with 300k. If not then the owner must have kept meticulous care of it. Take it to a local qualified mechanic to get it checked out. Small price to pay for piece of mind and they can tell what has been replaced.

I like the 96 - 98 because they have the niceset interiors and the motors are VORTEC = extra power and better efficiency than an older throttle body or carbureted truck. Some like the pre 1996 models because they do not have the VORTEC intake manifold gasket failure problem and variable speed assist power steering.

If you can get a Z71 because it has a heaver duty rear end, 3:73 gears, transmission cooler, oil cooler, power steering cooler, etc.

My truck has 200k all original, except pitman, idiler arm, raidiator, water pump, spark plugs, front brake rotors etc.

It doesn't burn oil and the 4L60e shifts great. It has been family owned since new and always had regular fluid changes.

If you decide on a truck be sure to post the specs and pics!
