285/75  DON'T fit ?!?!?

Guy at the local shop said that he'd give me $100 if I got the 285's on and they didn't rub.  Course I'd have to give him $100 if they do rub.

Don't think this guy would bet $100 if he weren't sure.  How many of you out there have 285's that don't rub - AT ALL??

He said they'd even rub on a 2500?!?!

I have LT285/75/R16's on the stock wheels on my 2002 and they dont come close to rubbing, plus I have seen a ton of other trucks with them on.

That guy you talked to is a clown

I put my 285s on with stock rims and drove about 3 months before I adjusted the torsion bars and the tires never rubbed.  From the factory the truck sat 2.5" lower in the front (good nose dive).  I don't know about an 8" rim depending on the backspacing of the rim I think.

I put 285's on my truck with stock rims, no rubbing, but did you mention 8" rims??? I don't know if they would rub with that size rim.

A friend of mine has 285's on his 2001, 2500HD with aftermarket 8" rims and the tires rub slightly on the front plastic piece when he turns hard.

I have a stock 2000 2500 Silverado ext. cab 4x4.  To my knowledge there was not an HD in 2000, although mine has all the HD options.  The suspension is stock.  I did not want to tighten the front bars only due to the fact the 3/4 ton already rides hard enough for my taste.

I just put tires on it last night.  It now has on it new Yokohoma AT+II.  I can definitely say they will not only rub but they hit.  I could NOT even take the wheel from lock to lock with the 285's ... (285x75x16) It was not even close.  The shop then put on the 265's (265x75x16) for me.  I have to add the 265's rubbed my mud flaps and a speck on the front left.  I trimmed them off to fit nicely.

I do not have stock wheels on it.  The 285's tested and the 265's on it, are on 8 in wheels with 4.5 backspacing.  (American Racing Nitro)

The 265's look great and the Yokohoma's ride much better that the BFG's (mainly from going from E to D) The are also very quite, which is impressive for the deep treat they are sporting.

Good luck on the 285's.  I luckily did not mail order them and the tire shop I went to was willing to try one first.  After seeing for myself I personally do not know how you guys fit them without a lift.  Tightening them bars must do a lot.  Although, what happens when you hit a rut going 40 and your suspension compresses fully?

Maybe if I used the stock rims they could of squeezed under...  I was not willing to use the stock wheels.  Tires are too expensive to wear them out any faster than they already do.

My 2 cents.

I have a 2000 chevy silverado Lt  and just last spring I put Yokahama Geolander AT+2's  285/75/16 on my truck with American racing Python rims, 16 X 8 .  They did not rub at all. I later cranked my torstion bars only to level the truck. the tires are great and the look of the 285's are far superior to 265's.  I say put them on and collect the $100.00

it is my understanding that the 2500's have a different back spacing on their rims making it so that the larger tires won't fit without rubbing.

Looks like I'm going to have to try to find a place that has one I can "try"   Don't feel like cutting up the truck to make them fit.

Have had mine on for almost two years and have had no rubbing issues at all.  I cranked the tbars (only about 3/4 of an inch) a little while after I had the tire on for a few months, but never had any rubbing before either.

Also I off-road my truck quite hard on a regular basis and I have had absolutely no issues with rubbing and 285s... :thumb:
