Well I got done washing my truck when I started to look at it and I was thinking how hard would it be to plastic dip my side view mirrors white? Then I started to look at it and then I just started to pry it open with a screw driver! This is what I got.post-142840-0-12095700-1440124067_thumb.jpg

When I took a look at the back to see how it was mounted I discovered that I ripped out the clips!!post-142840-0-77756700-1440125107_thumb.jpg

After the first coat of dip I decided to see how hard it would be to take off the grill and dip it ass well and then this is what happened

post-142840-0-08426700-1440124634_thumb.jpg

As I was taking off the grill and the other painted piece( I don't know what's it called) it got caught up on the passengers side and would not come off! I had to put some force into it.

So what is the proper way to remove the mirror caps without busting the clips?

That's a good question. I don't think u can get it off with out taking the whole mirror assembly apart. There no way to access it from the outside.

lol this thread reminds me of some dumb stuff i've done to my previous cars.

not calling you dumb, just doing something you think would be fine, then you screw it up and say "dude really? just had to happen to me"...lol

I had the dealer swap out my chrome ones for painted ones - they did it in about ten minutes by squeezing the mirror caps correctly and then using a specail "tool" they had - much like they have a little tool to make it easy to swap the door handles. This tool helps to keep from breaking the plastic tabs on the inside....I bet if you found a good dealer who knows how to do the swap and better yet have a relationship with them, they would do it for almost nothing if you brought in the parts...

heck, they dind't charge me for the painted ones or putting them on, they just did the swap and kept the chrome ones which was alright with me

After that I started to take everything apart.

I then started to tape.

And started to paint.

I was going to paint the chrome pieces black but then I started to think I never saw a grill with the chrome pieces showing. I always seen the whole inside of the grills painted black. I'm pretty excited on how it's going to look.

...just curious...could the damage that's been done effect the warranty? Let's say there's something wrong with the electrical wiring could they say 'hey wait a minute...'

I always wonder what you guys are allowed to do without losing the warranty or part of it.

:dunno:

No unless the chrome piece is the thing that u need to be replaced. Like if cracks one day and u bring it in and they see that u ripped it and the clips are broken they could be like of it cracked cause you took it off.

Well this morning I checked my side view mirrors and they had a sticky rubberish feeling to it and I was kinds pissed off. So I did a little research and I guess I'm not alone. I found a solution buy waxing the parts with glossifier on it and it turned of a lot more smoother!
