Anyone know what this is for?

I have a 2003 2500HD LS.  I was wondering if anyone knew what the little round thing above the drivers side window is.  It is about the size of a quarter and has holes in it.  Looks like a small speaker grille.  It is mounted in the roof.

Thanks.

Ahh, I do not have OnStar, but that could be it.  Mabey they just put it in there as a standard thing in case i want OnStar added down the road sometime.

My 03 HD has it and yes it is for the On-Star. It is like a little micraphone, also if your truck has the phone option (just like having a cell phone) this is the mic. for it

If it is the grill opening near the driver's window like he described, it is for the auto climate control.  I don't have OnStar but do have this grill and I know that is what it is for.  I think the OnStar microphone/speaker is near the center of the headliner in front of the driver.

Thanks for the replies.

Since I do not have OnStar, but do have the auto climate control, I will assume it is for that.

If you are talking about the little speaker like pad above and just to the left of the drivers head, it is indeed for the Climate Control.

I had the same question and asked my service writer.

The OnStar microphone is located on the center console on the left side. It is a small “black” device about the size of a peanut.

So now that we know that does anyone know what the little clips on the far right hand side of the glove box are for?

#### why don’t these things come with instructions????

 Well you learn somthing new all the time, in my case not everyday I thought I had read in the owners manual it was the mic deal.  Oh well thaks for the info. Now if I can just find out if my truck has the pasanger sensing air bag which the sales person says it came with and so did the sales sheet.  Although it does not have the rear view mirror indicating it does. Also it is suposed to have heated outside mirrors which the sales person said are activated when you turn on the rear window defrost, but the same here I do not see any indicators on the outside mirrors??? any ideas. :seeya:

Same here Scrambler.  I have the power, heated, dimming, folding non-camper style mirrors but it doesn't have the little icon in the corners like the previous models did.  My guess is that they just don't have the symbol on there anymore.  These haven't been on any model previous to the 2003's, so they are brand new with the blinker indications, etc.  Hasn't been cold enough here lately to try them out.  Guess I won't find out until next winter!
