4L60E Fitment

I have a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab 5.3L 2WD. My 4L60E transmission is hurt. My 2nd gear is slipping. I have been told numerous things concerning my tranny. I have been told to rebuild it or to find another 4L60E in a junkyard and get a warranty and just slap her in. Of course, finding one is a lot cheaper, but risky. If I get it rebuilt and a warranty, it is not as cheap, but well worth every penny. Also, would a 4L60E from a s10 or a blazer of a different year fit in my '05. Yeah, they have the same name, but not sure if this would exactly fit in my '05. Would like some advice/tips. Personal experiences would be a plus. Thank you.

Like you mention the 2nd gear slip could be caused by many things. I think when swapping a different year, you have to be careful of going back past 2000. Your transmission in 2005 should have a green electrical connector. Later models should be black. If you go farther back, I think past 2000, the input shafts change. All of these things could make a swap a little more difficult. I have always been curious if you could replace the green electric harness from older units, into an newer case say a 2006 or vice versa.

Thank you @dard6555 and@Duelin. Appreciate your time to respond. I will definitely go to 2 or more salvage yards and definitely do my research and ask questions at the yards. I have heard many causes of the slipping gears. I will probably come to a final choice within a few weeks. Thank you guys again.
