Cell Phone Tray on Flow Through Console - Stopping Vibrations

Hey Folks - I am curious to see if anyone of you creative folks have come up with a good way of stopping your cell phones from causing vibrations when using the tray/slot that the flow through consoles have. I have a '15 Silverado and love the convenience of resting my cell phones (I have a personal and one for work) in the tray/slot but have found that the phones both fall over occasionally on turns and also cause a good deal of chatter and vibrations when driving, as they bump against the covers for the USB ports and 12-volt outputs. In case what I am describing isn't clear, I've added a couple pictures.

The best thing I could come up with so far was to cut strips off of one of those no-slip rubber pads, but the phones still topple over occasionally, and the covers themselves still seem to make some noise as the lid bounces against plastic.

Has anyone come up with a better option or found something that works well for them? I know I could just sit the cell phone on the armrest pad but I like the be able to see what the phone is doing at a glance, and it's also a great location if you're using the phone for GPS. My next step was to try some rubber adhesive pads like you find on the bottoms of coasters.

I think what might work best is to just get a rubber cellphone case, but I prefer smooth plastic ones because they are easier to remove from your pocket.

I'm curious what other folks are doing. I cannot stand vibrations and unintentional sounds in my cabin...I'm kind of OCD about it.

You can see the little strips I cut and applied here.

Exactly what I was gonna say, get a silicone case for the phone (protection for the phone and truck), and you won't hear a peep. Plus the phone stays put pretty good. It only falls if I take off with the pedal to the metal.

I think that's what I might end up having to do, but really don't like rubber cell phone cases. And I just ordered a new hard plastic one SMH.

So you guys don't hear anything then? It's hard to tell when driving, but it seems like the kid to those ports makes sounds as it bumps against the plastic. I'm not sure if that makes sense, can't find the words for it. Like if you tap the lids they make some sound. I'm wondering if I'm going to need to find something to put on the bottom of the lids to stop that.

I'll have to take a look but it would be cool if you could take hose lids/flaps off and coat them in something like plasti-dip to give them grip and stop the chatter.

I'm mildly OCD also and the little strips you added would bug me :)

The biggest problem I have is I like to have the phone plugged in to charge when I am in the truck so I end up laying it sideways in the slot.

I'm keeping an eye out for some type of cradle that will let the lightning connecter pass through the bottom.

If I find something that I can live with I will report back.

I hear you! That's why I'm still looking for an alternative! I don't like the look of the strips at all - the only saving grace is my phone is always there so I don't see them.

The cleanest thing seems to be to just get a rubber phone case, but I'm trying to avoid that.

You sure the chatter is coming from there, not the sunglass holder?

You need to do the wireless charger in the console lid, I think that is brilliant. I might do that some time this winter.

Pretty positive.... What makes you mentioned the sunglass holder? Does yours make sounds? I haven't noticed anything with that yet.

Next time you get in your truck (or don't if you don't notice it now so it doesn't start bothering you : ) ), tap on the lids when they are closed. They make clicking sounds. So when the phone is resting against them, they still make noise even if you have a rubber cell phone case or rubber in between the phone and cover like I do.

I realize I sound OCD.. it's my cross to bear. haha.

Sunglass holder rattle is a known issue, there is a large thread on it somewhere.

I'll test out the phone noise and lids tonight, I'll take my case off too and see if it makes noise.

Interesting, I hadn't seen or heard anything about the sunglass holder. I just checked out mine and it seems solid, and like I said, haven't heard anything from it so far. Im not sure what would rattle in it, but I have a pair of raybans in mine, and the inside has a foam layer that would at least stop the sunglasses themselves from causing the rattle. Not sure about the rest of the components.

As for the phone tray, I can't stand rubber cases as they are way to hard to pull out of a pair of jean pockets, so I think I am going to just try a leather backed case and see if that works. I am looking at the one below. I'm thinking the faux leather backing should at least quiet down the phone to lid sounds without needing the ugly rubber strips I added. It's not going to fix the other lid sounds though. I thought about just putting really thin strips of electrical tape under the lid, which you might only see when the lid is opened, but I'm not crazy about the residue the electrical tape will leave and it might get funky in the summer heat.

Not sure what kind of phone you have, but I have this on my s6. Like metioned above, it's rubber/silca ish, but not sticky at all. Slides in and out of the pocket easily and is lint free :P

Thanks, man. I have an iPhone 6 but if the one I ordered doesn't work out I will see if they have one similar for the iPhone and give it a try. I appreciate the help.
