Trailer Wiring Question

So, on my 2015.5, I installed a Tailgate Light that simply plugs into the 4 pin socket on the Factory wiring plug right below the 7 pin.

I would like to splice that connection on the back behind the bumper so A: you don't see it plugged in, and B: so it does not block the 7 pin plug.

I poked around under the rear bumper Sunday, and was able to un-clip the factory plugs from the bumper, but there is not enough slack in the wires to pull it out. Anyone know which is the best way to accomplish what I am looking to do.

I tried to "google" it, but had no luck.

Thanks in Advance !!

I have the same style light bar, and what I did (or rather, had someone do) was get under the truck and hardwire the bar to the 4 pin's wiring. Now I can just plug in a trailer if needed, and it will work.

EDIT: I'll try to get under my truck later and snap a picture for you.

I would great appreciate it. I'm not afraid to do it on my own, but I don't want to have to guess on the wire colors.

There is only one harness for both the 4 and 7 pin connectors. It's the one with the gray head. I couldn't undo the taping that was done, but I'm 99% certain that the tails are the brown wire, which is where to wire the bar.

If your bar goes white on reverse like mine, the separate white wire that it has should splice into the purple wire, or to your left reverse light wiring.

I'm sure someone can confirm this for you on here.

Cheers!

If you haven't already tapped into the wiring, you could save yourself some time and add another flat-4 style connector with an adapter like this one - http://www.amazon.com/Curt-Manufacturing-55384-CURT-T-Connector/dp/B0009FJ38Q

I have the Recon "Xtreme" Amber Scanning Tailgate Light Bar on my Silverado SS. I tapped into the tow harness on it. I feel I am more than adequate with a soldering iron and wiring, but after about 3 years the liquid electrical tape, tape, and wire loom gave up and let some water in, shorting out the bar. I plan to add the same model light bar to my new 2500HD High Country. Since that light bar needs a 12v+ and a reverse light, I plan to use the bellow 7way t adapter for the wiring and cut off the female side so that I have a clean tap ad the factory harness - http://www.amazon.com/CURT-Wheel-Goose-Extension-56070-7FT/dp/B0031GHBSE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1444936856&sr=8-1&keywords=curt+56070

I appreciate you steering me in this direction! It looks like all I need is the first t connection since my bar is installed already and I ran I wire to my tail lamp for the reverse wire already. I'm guessing all I have to do is unplug the back side of the factory harness, plug this in between it and the connector, and use the 4 pin for the bar, right?

Yes, So long as that's the right t connector for your setup. You can confirm on the Curt website, but it should be right. I have a 2015 2500HD High Country and this is the right one for mine. Just plugs inline with the factory harness and gives you another flat4 style plug behind the bumper.

If you have the 5th wheel pigtail for in bed plug that's what I wired to.

I have four Recon light bars on the truck. 2 ember on the sides under doors. 2 on back under and on top tailgate. Problem I had with Recon is fuse holder. Small spring wears/rusts out and no longer makes contact. I cut the fuse holders off and go with a blade style holder.

I know the truck has the wiring for a 5th wheel, now I just have to find it.

Should be between the license plate mount and the spare tire. It will be zip-tied to the tow harness if you have fifth wheel prep (that's an option separate from the tow package.) If you don't have that option, you can get something like this so you're not hacking into the factory wiring - always preferred.

Exactly. I ordered Curt part number 55384 which is probably the same for you. Should plug right in line with the factory tow harness behind the license plate.

In case it helps, the Curt Part was exactly what I needed.

Pop out the trailer wiring assembly squeezing the 2 retention clips behind the bumper.

The product plugged right in no problem.

I needed the 12v+ and reverse for the recon light bar so I soldered 2 new wires to the harness adapter and then added a weather tight 2 prong connector next to the 4 flat trailer connector.

Haven't had a chance to put the light bar on yet with the adapter, but have tested it. Works great.

    • Fred was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young pullets, and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced. This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached them to his roosters. Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now, he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells. Fred's favourite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all! When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover. To Fred's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one. Fred was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the City Show and he became an overnight sensation among the judges. The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the "No Bell Piece Prize," but they also awarded him the "Pulletsurprise" as well. Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention. Vote carefully in the next election, you can't always hear the bells.
    • Can someone confirm if the GM order workbench terminal is able to validate a custom build sequence:   1) Initialize the Allocation Base: Open a new vehicle build queue, select the 2026 Chevrolet Suburban 4WD, and pick the High Country (3LZ Preferred Equipment Group).   2) Select the Diesel Powertrain: Go directly to the engine configuration screen and choose RPO code LZ0 (3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel). Ensure it maps to the MHS 10-speed automatic transmission.   3) Deploy the Seating Swap: Navigate to the Interior Options screen and enter RPO code ATT to replace the standard captain's chairs with the power-release 60/40 bench seat. Because you are not trying to force a separate luxury or air-suspension bundle, the standard, premium D07 Fixed Floor Console remains active. The system will accept this change immediately without triggering a warning message.   3)Apply Heavy-Duty Hauling Capability: Input RPO code NHT (Max Trailering Package). The commercial terminal will automatically bundle the required trailering hardware and software modules to support the diesel engine's maximum towing capacity.   5) Layer the Premium Tech and Glass: Separately add code C3U (Panoramic Power Sunroof) and code UKL (Super Cruise) to the order screen.   6) Run the Final Validation: Click the "Validate Order" button at the bottom of the interface.
    • Spent the last hour or 2 googling and reading up on the spacer thing. I don't like the loss of thread contact on the slip on spacers, but it appears you can get "extended" lug nuts that reach into the hole of the wheel to get back the lost threads. Looks like the only true hubcentric slip on spacers are at least .375". I'd want as little as I could get away with and don't want to cause other clearance issues going any thicker. Bora seems to offer what appears to be a well made .375" spacer and extended lug nuts. I searched here and did find a couple threads recommending Bora. But not cheap. By the time I buy spacers and lugs, new TPMS sensors, then pay a tire shop to install the new sensors, I suspect I'm going to be in over $400. Thinking about running out and getting some washers to put behind the wheel to see if .375" is enough to clear calipers, turn lock to lock without rubbing, and to see if the wheels/tires look strange pushed out a little. This would just be to check fitment.
    • Roadmaster makes some quality parts; I have their sway bar. I considered the RAS, but I ended up bagging. I didn't know what kind of ride I'd get with RAS, and the bags have interior jounce bumpers, so I can run 0 pounds pressure. I figured I'd have the best of normal suspension ride with assist on-demand. But it seems you got pretty much the same in one item.
