More amps from 2015 in Cab power

Can anyone talk me out of this? I'm pretty disappointed in the weak usb and 110 outlets in this truck, they are pretty useless that my phone still runs down while plugged in. It looks like the outlets are 0.5 amp, so is there any reason I can't install another inverter, rum that to the 110 outlet, and then run 5v dc, 3a step-downs from the battery into the power lines on the usb ports?

Would I need to install a second battery with proper cutouts/switches?

The USB ports are useless for charging, I put an adapter in the power socket next to the USB hub.

Right, but I've got a $50,000 truck, it has usb "charging" ports, I want to make them work so I can use them... I don't want to just add some more gizmos and ignore the problem.

I guess I'll buy some parts this weekend and do some math. I was hoping someone had done this already, the big argument I've seen was that the wiring can't handle it and would melt, but the wires should be good up to a couple amps at least, depending on the specific size.

I think that's overkill. I have a 2.4a iphone car charger and it works as well as plugging in at home. Just pickup one of these and you'll be done. http://www.amazon.com/Maxboost-Portable-Compatible-Bluetooth-Extended/dp/B00ISGCDC6

I agree however that 5 USB outlets at 0.5a is pretty useless.
