Higher then average oil pressure

I bought this truck a year ago and have been driving it Dailey .. It's a 2000 Silverado z71 with 5.3l and 230k miles.

 

I replaced a bunch of gaskets on the motor and did the tranny and haven't had much problems since.

 

My concern is that it carries too much oil pressure. My truck idles at 55-60 psi warm. And if I WOT it, it'll come up to damn near 75psi. Is this a major concern? You would think with a higher mileage motor, it be less.

 

When I changed the oil pan gasket I didn't touch the oil pump just cleaned. When I did the intake gaskets and valve covers I did go ahead and change the oil pressure sending unit so it is new.

 

 

What do you guys think.? High mileage and high oil pressure can it be a problem or anyone else experience this?

Best to check with another pressure gauge if you're concerned. You haven't owned this truck from day one? Maybe someone installed a high pressure, high volume pump in the past

Ok looks like I need the test with mechanical gauge like you guys are saying.

 

Is there another area where I can tap into to read the oil pressure rather then where the sending unit is because that's a bitch to get too. And having to use the specialty socket sucks. Is there a plug anywhere I can get to easier to read the oil pressure?

My 05 pegs the gauge at wide open throttle and shows around 40 psi idle.... it's done this since day one and has just shy of 170000 miles on it now..... I would be happy to see that lol. Verify it with a mechanical gauge to ensure accuracy but if it comes back similar just drive it!

 

You can try down by the oil cooler too but I think that will be almost worse. Otherwise there isn't really anything else you can thread into for oil pressure testing.

My truck doesn't have the oil cooler, and shucks it's a pain in the ass getting to that sending unit with the firewall and massive intake in the way lol. ?

Well there is a block off plate installed on the oil pan where the cooler would have attached. You could pull it off as its just 2 bolts above the filter and then drill and tap a hole in it. That might be easier..
