Chains on all four tires Gmt400 vs gmt800 Suburban

For a first post, I'd like to tap into y'alls collective wisdom.

I am looking to put together a hunting and fishing rig that is capable of handling muddy/snowy Forest Service roads in the high country. I've owned a 1988 and a 1995 Suburban and have used each in that manner quite a bit. That said, I've not used chains on all four tires with the 95.

So..here's the question. Is there sufficient clearance for chains all the way around on the 2000-2006 model Suburbans? I'd like to stay within those years because I want the "lay flat" rear cargo area (as well as barn doors).

I would prefer just regular old chains and not specialized chains and in fact if the gmt 800 platform won't allow them I'll likely look for another 1995....because I know its foibles....transmission, door locks, crappy leather, front end stuff.

Any insights would be appreciated.

One of the problems to keep in mind. And you can run into running chains on the front. Is if a cross link breaks and the unit has ABS it can rip the ABS harness apart. If it solely going to be used a back woods service vehicle then it won't make any difference.

Hadn't thought about the ABS. I assume that that little red ABS light that I put electricians' tape over on the dash board of my 95 would go out if the chains ripped out the harness. I would likely not use the chains on the front on anything but the FS roads (maybe occasionally on the back on pavement if the roads are bad). Having grown in the Rockies chains have always been a part of the winter driving matrix. Imagine my surprise when I got around to reading the owners' man for my 2012 Silverado..no chains allowed. Thus my question as to the GMT 800 platform.
