Go to youtube and search for 2015 Silverado cabin filter replacement. I was trying to post a direct link to a video but for some reason it would not post.

I don't think that's the issue because the cabin filter is on the right side behind the glove compartment but the sound is emanating directly from behind the steering column/tachometer.

Have you found any solution to this issue? I have it as well. I thought it might be the motor for the tachometer needle. I can't drive my truck without the window open or the radio up. It drives me nuts.

Sorry to say that I have not. Do you have a six or 8 cylinder? Have you taken your truck to the dealership. I can definitely second you on the whole driving me nuts thing.. I regret buying this truck and have considered trading it in for a used Dodge RAM. This purchase was somewhat impulsive.. didn't take my time and read about how many issues these generations of trucks are having. Problem is is I don't want to lose money so I think I'm stuck with it.

Yup v6 and same thing with me, an impulse buy. I have an appointment on wednesday at the dealer for numerous things including the radio making a loud bump then shutting off for a few seconds. Quality is garbage coming from 2 underpowered Tacomas. But everything on them worked great.

Let me know what they say and how it goes. I'm contemplating a 2015 F-150 now. They've got the best reviews and I test drove their 2.7 Eco boost.. the power is baffling for such a small engine. Also feel like the handling is smoother than the Silverados (which isn't to say the Silverado isn't already smooth handling) and the ride is much less stiff/bumpy.

Just an update: Scheduled an appointment for Feb 8th to have it looked at the same dealership I purchased from and the same dealership I have brought it to twice already. Talked to the guy who sold the truck to me who worked with me for a while and explained the whole situation to him.. told me he'll work with the guy in charge of servicing my Silverado.

If I get the same response of "oh it's a normal engine noise, its nothing" I'm going to consult with him and figure out what my next step is.. I need to be happy with my purchase.. I didn't commit to a 7 year loan with monthly payments to be pissed off every time that I drive my vehicle.

Yea dealer gave me the same runaround as I expected. "Everything is normal..." LOL it took them 6 hours to look into my minor complaints and update my radio software, what a joke. I did get into my foot wells with the doors closed(very difficult!) and it sounds like it may be an exhaust leak. I'm going to try and find out myself when I have time. There was a service bulletin on the 5.3 trucks with the exhaust not settling properly. Something to the effect of loosen everything and tighten it all back up in a set sequence. I may try this as a last resort.

Oh wow so they gave it back to you with no resolution on the noise? That's crap. I ended up having to cancel my appointment because something came up at work, so I'm rescheduled for Presidents day Feb 15th. I'll let you know asap what they say.

Have you considered taking your truck to a local auto shop that specializes in GM vehicles? They probably would be able to confirm or deny that it is an exhaust leak. An exhaust leak definitely matches the symptoms I have. If I can't get any recourse after they look at it a 3rd time that's probably what I'll end up doing. If they find something wrong with it I do believe the dealership would be obligated to reimburse you for any cost.

One of mine was making funny noise before the heat/air module went out. Does changing air flow positions make any difference in noise?

A buzzing noise in my 2014 Silverado started yesterday. It's appearsbto be intermittent hearing it as I get into the truck. The first time I thought a bee or two followed me into the truck. Another time I just opened the driver side to to retrieve something from the door. The sound stops after 10 seconds or so, the truck has 30, 000 miles never had this noise before yesterday. If anyone has any ideas what it could be your response would be greatly appreciated.

    • No I didn’t watch a video of a person who analyzes oil for a living explain general oil usage. For clarity I did ask my brothers one who runs our equipment business. The other who runs our old ROW business about oil usage. Nothing has changed since I retired. Their personal vehicles or work vehicles use no oil. Not enough to see on the oil checking device. Then I pondered. I like to ponder. In this extended oil changing world with oil change countdowns or lights. If engines used say a qt every 2500 miles or up to even 4000 miles. With oil changes reaching as high as 15000 miles. Normal for most people is eight to ten. Vehicles should potentially be seizing up all over the place. Especially in hilly terrain. Just how many people actually check their oil? Maybe 10 percent. Those are the people that probably change their oil early. I like to research used car listings. I have five favorite dealers I check. They all list carfax with their listing. It’s rare to see vehicles with anything but extended oil changes. Transmission service, forget about it. I’ve seen Honda and Toyota certified vehicles up to 100K miles and ten years old. With nothing but normal maintenance. Isn’t nice we all have different experiences and believe our way is the best. You certainly get backup for whatever you believe. Life would be boring otherwise.
    • Interesting rumor. Dealers near me have been tight-lipped so far, but if this reveal actually happens next week, I'm really hoping they finally give the HD a proper interior overhaul. The competition has been eating their lunch in the cabin department for a while now.
    • There are a few good takeaways in that video that pertain to this thread, certainly the possibility of the oil control rings having buildup, the fuel injectors and how clean or not that they are ending up affecting the pistons rings carbon buildup, and the fact that its normal up to a point for a given engine to use some oil, and that the oil quality that is being utilized is part of that ring clogging up issue as well.   I was talking with a neighbor yesterday who has a baby LZ0 duramax and he had bought it slightly used but it does consume some oil and he has switched over to 5W-30 Euro spec oil and in this case that never made a difference in consumption over the factory 0W-20 recommendation. He finds it uses a quart in about 3500 miles and as he goes a ways over that distance he adds oil to full and goes another 1000 miles or so and then changes oil and is typically at 40% or so left on the oil monitor at that point with his use case of quite a lot of highway miles and more limited in short run use. I don't know what other LZ0 engines are doing for oil consumption but that is what his is doing.
    • I dont care what Lake says. Goodnight.
    • Ok well I guess Lake disagrees with me on a few points. I call oil consumption pretty basic. Rudimentary. He calls it "really complicated." I think 1qt consumed in 3k miles is a lot. He says that's normal. In 22 minutes, he'll use his natural talent to explain oil consumption to anyone watching this video. He covers everything from obvious engine damage to how normally functioning healthy engines consume oil by design. Lake explicitly states how you drive will impact oil consumption.   Shut up and watch:
