Boat spring tuneup

It is that time of the year again. I'm getting ready to get the boat ready for the water. It has been in the shop getting new seat covers. Previous owner didn't take care of it. If I may give some advise, DON'T BUY A USED BOAT!  Unless of course you know the entire history. This thing has been a money pit from day one. The only thing that isn't new on it now is the hull.

If anyone is interested, Amsoil makes a killer lower unit gear oil. When I changed mine out I got 150 more RPM's at WOT. It might be just me but it seems to have better throttle response too. They also have a good 15w-40 marine oil for the four stroke guys as well as 2 cycle injector oil.

Just wanted to pass that on.

Happy Boating! :thumb:

The two happiest days of a boat owner's life is the day you buy the boat... and the day you sell it.

I just sold my boat..had a '97 Sea Ray for a few years. And I have to agree with both of the above statements.

I'm thinking about switching to the 2 stroke injection oil. Any details?  :thumb:

Sorry for taking so long in replying. I was out of town with my daughter in St. Louis for her surgery.

The injector oil is really good stuff. Smoke will all but be gone and so will plug fouling. I have been running the 100:1 mix in all my lawn stuff, weed wacker, chain saw, leaf blower for the past 7 years or so and never changed the plugs. They all run smooth as silk and crank right up every spring with no problems. The Amsoil 2 cycle oil has fuel stabilizer already in it for those long storage seasons.

The injector oil is cleaner on the enviroment and makes starting a lot easier also. It is $19.20 a gallon or $4.20 a quart.

I also noticed throttle response picked up too. I ran it in my Yamaha Super Jet and my plugs lasted all summer long. I only changed them at the begining of the summer, and then only because I felt better about it not that they really needed it.

The advantage to the premix is you only have to have one gas can for all your toys instead of one for each mix needed. At 100:1 it really runs clean and frees up some power. I know a few that run the racing 2 cycle oil in their moto cross bikes and love it. :thumb:

Let me know if you have any more questions. You can get if from my web site or email me for a free catalog.

Todd,

The Amsoil 2 cycle injector oil is $19.20 a gallon retail, or if your a preferred customer which cost $20 a year then the oil runs $14.65 a gallon.

The lower unit oil is $4.10 retail an 8oz tube or $3.10 wholesale but is way cheaper to buy it by the qt. A qt is $6.15 retail and $4.65 wholesale the wholesale is being a preferred customer. You can get a pump that you put on the quart bottle at most boat stores or like at Auto Zone, Pep Boys. That way you can use the quart bottle to fill the lower unit and not have to pay the expensive cost of the tube.

If you want a free catalog just send me your address. If you have any other questions you can PM or e mail me or add to this post.

It is the opening of the official boating season for most around here this weekend. Look out everyone for that one person having a blast but not paying attention. Boat safely!
