Turn signals when hitting brakes

Recommended Posts

After installing some new speakers getting ready to drive the truck. I hit the brakes and both turn signal lights come on and light up in the dash. They dont come on if i use the switch and if i hit the hazards the passenger side come on for a split second while turning the hazards on and off. The ground under the driverside bed is good. Checked the relays still same problem.

Also before this, sometimes when i turn my headlights on the high beams barely light up along with low beams and when i turn the passenger side turn signal on it the turn signal flashes at weird speeds. When it does flash it dims my low beam and brightens my high beams a little more.

Where should i start looking for shorts or bad grounds?

I'd look for a bad ground by passenger side front turn signal for your existing issue.

For the new problem, double check everything you had apart for your new speakers.

it is a war game, the brake simply over rule the hazards..but blinkers should keep working.

for headlamps to be in the mix, parking circuit must have a problem. they get the same power source at the switch.

that could be back or front, to bother the head lights.

A real odd one may be negative materials deteriorated inside the battery.. that is rare, but can happen. Limits amps, adds mysteries.

100 amp alt was the big one for these years, need to stay as disciplined as aircraft.

I'd first check all double filament bulbs. they are terrible, but cheap to swap anyway.

I actually learned lights with aircraft, some were special for refueling.

The truck has been simply fun.

the front double filament are outdated, they pushed boundaries for years.

LED swap complete has been incredible. Even the flasher relay is electronic, low amp..simulates a fade like old incandescent.

precision can be had... in fact just this year GM is catching onto the LED. A lot of older years left to be fixed custom. They all need it. Not just a gimmick.

The only old thing I kep was that cadillac looking opaque parking lenses for the front. It is classic pleasant when all else is corrected.

Update:

weirdest stuff ever. So after reading quite a bit of stuff about this happening to all different types of cars, i decided to swap out the junkyard multi switch and put the stock one back in.

I get it in connect the battery with the headlight switch still unplugged and bam no turn signal lights when i brake.

Now the funny part. I put it all back together open the garage to pull the truck out and what happens again?

So now i think headlight switch. It was doing it with the headlights off until i turned them on amd now they are not doing it all so problem solved there

For the problem before. It only does it when the headlights are on and sometimes after hitting a bump or the old "clutch slipped" it will go back to normal.

Just a fyi it happened after dodging a cow and driving through a ditch taking out a pretty good size bush.

So the passenger side top part of the grill is completely broke off and the parking light has a broke of mounting screw.

So i pretty much know where i need to start replaceing stuff. But is the some way to rig it up to not do that while i wait for parts to come in?

My wife's truck is a '94 K1500 Chevy. Someone (previous owner) had replaced the signal light bulbs in the front right signal light/park light housing... and installed the housing back UPSIDE DOWN, yes, it'll fit back in that way... there are weep holes at the bottom of the fixture to let moisture out... but when the fixture is in upside down, it fills with rain water, or water from the car wash. Had similar sorts of issues as you mention, found that signal light fixture about half full of water was the problem :o

It was acting a bad ts switch that i got from a junkyard to eliminate windshield wiper problems.

Anyways put the stock one back in and all is well

Sounds like a bad ground. Check the ground strap from the passenger side of the engine to the frame. Just a thought.
