Tire Size and Brand ??

Recommended Posts

Hey guys.....Was really checking out my 02 2500 HD 4X4 this weekend.....boy did Chevy put small tires on this truck. The huge gaps between the wheelwell and tire actually looks pretty whimpy - even the wife thinks so !  :thumb: - So my question is - What is the best bigger size to get for the Factory Aluminum rims ? 265-75-16 or 285-75-16 ?

Also - Has anyone used those Yokohama Geolander A/T tires ?

Or what other tire do you guys suggest ?

Thanks for you help !!

You can put either on, but if you go 285/75/R16 the center of the tread wears quicker if you have decent air pressure in the tire. If you dont tow much you can run lower pressure and have them wear even. 265's fit great, or you could go with a 255/85/R16, it is between stock and a 265 in width and just a hare taller than a 285 in height. Thats what I plan on putting on mine.

285-75-R16 Bridgestone Dueler/AT REVO's are the best tire around for highway smoothness, water handling and mud snow traction!!!

Go REVO.....   :thumb:

I have 285/75/16 Geolanders on my 03 2500HD. The Geolanders are great! Perfect tire if you are looking for something between a AT and a MT. Word of caution though, with their tread design, they are some rock slinging SOB's though. Make sure you run splash gaurds!

Also expext some rubbing on the front air dam. Should have to trim a bit even with cranking the torsion bars.

Another Geolander user here.  I give 'em two thumbs up for all around use.  Great in mud, snow and rain....awsome dry road traction.  With the current wear I am getting, I expect to see around 40,000 with these tires.

Im for the Dueler Revo here. I put 265/75/R16 on my 2003 2500HD Crew Cab and O MY, they make the truck look even meaner. These tires are great and look even greater. Go get yourself some Dueler Revos. You won't be dissapointed.

Running American rubber here...305-70R-16 Goodyear Wrangler MTR's.They have been on my truck for over a year now and they still look new.I reccomend 285's for your truck and you won't have any problems.I know plenty people running them on HD's and I haven't heard of one problem yet.I have looked at 3 sets of 285's with over 30K on them and haven't seen any wearing in the middle as some people say.......Gun

I am running BFG All Terrain KOs in 265/75R16. I cranked the torsion bars so my next set will probably the be 255/85/R16 BFG Mud Terrain KM.

Agree with Shotgun, unless you never leave the pavement.  I have Wrangler MT/Rs and love the way they perform on and off road.  They are solid,  indestructable, and stick to everything.

See:

The Revos are also very good.  They're a little better on road and a quite as capable off road, though I have not yet been able to loose traction on wet or dry pavement with my MT/Rs - and I have tried.  One thing that sold me on the MT/Rs was actually feeling the sidewall on an unmounted tire.  It feels much thicker and stronger than any other tire, even the *#%&$#@! French-made BFGs.

[NOTE: 1/3 of the French public polled during the recent conflict said that they wanted the Iraqis wo win (i.e. kill a lot of American troops).  We have also confirmed that the French government was providing the Iraqis with the intelligence contained in briefs we provided to the French just before we invaded.  There are too many good non-French products for me to ever consider supporting their economy, which in turn would support their anti-American machinations.  Sorry - enough venting for this former Marine.]   :chevy:

I have 285s on my 1500HD.  I had to crank the T-bars and it also helped when I put a replacement bumper on the truck.  They may fit a little differently on the 2500HDs though.
