Crazy electrical issue

Maybe a little late but pretty sure I saw something similar on another forum. They recommended removing the trailer connector. If you have one, they get rusted and can cause weird short issues.

Thanks for your reply. Do you mean the pig tail connected at the hitch?

How did you determine it was the ignition switch? :happysad:

I finally threw in the towel and took it to my mechanic. I really prefer to solve these problems myself but this one put me through the wringer. He diagnosed it in a short amount of time; he knows these trucks pretty well. It's hard to believe a faulty ignition switches caused all of these problems. The switch managed to last 20 years and 300,000 miles so no complaints!

I have been having the exact same problems with my 1996 GMC Sierra 1500. When I put it in drive my anti-lock brake light and my emergency brake light would come on and intermittently go off but it was consistent. I checked all my grounds wiggled every possible wire could see and still could not replicate the problem. I took it to my mechanic and he too said it was the ignition switch. I will be getting a new one put in this Thursday.
