I want XM radio, but I do not want an after factory unit. Can a 2003 XM factory radio be swaped for a 2002 factory radio? I don't care that after market is better, etc, I want to keep the stock look.

I don't have the exact answer - but I'm guessing you can't.  I base that on what I've learned the last two weeks and two articles on GM's TechLink site.  The new radios (I don't know what year this started - but 2003 for sure) communicate with the rest of the vehicle on the Class 2 bus.  They know the VIN number and must be programmed (via the Tech2 tool) for the vehicle they are in - truck, hummer, etc.  I have a 2003 Sierra - Bose, changer and XM.  I love it - but after reading the details - GM is making it very tough to swap out or change radios in the vehicles these days.  Look at these two links and for the articles on XM.  Good luck with it. I just went thru this and if you want XM head to Circuit City and get one. I went with the Pioneer and roof mount ant. No complaints or regrets.

Be aware though that, good though they sound, the GEX 903XM unit that Circuit City are giving away uses an FM modulator.

Can't beat the price though. I am being quoted $229 out the door. I can then go back and upgrade myhead unit to a Pioneer XM unit and get true XM

polxc5 - where did you put the little Pioneer display (assuming that you got the 903).

What about using the Soundgate adapter with these Pioneer tuners? That is what I am planning on doing with a 910 on my 03 Bose unit that does not have the XM.

I added XM using the GEX903, using FM modulation, and it's OK. I think the sound is good, but would probably be better with one of the cable adaptors. The FM setup was easy and cheap.

01Burb - I put my display into the cassette slot. It fits great top to bottom - there is a little space on either side of the display which I masked with a piece of plastic that matched the color of the interior.
