rough shift from 1st to 2nd

Hey guys - I drove a '16 2500 duramax crew Z71 today as I'm thinking of jumping up to a diesel. I took it on the highway to make sure no vibrations like the 1500 and that was good to go. A little turbo lag but that's to be expected.

 

When I really jumped on the throttle from a dead stop it seemed to shift rough from 1st to 2nd, almost like a jump. Is this normal on these Allison transmissions? Will that settle as it breaks in?

Normal. You want nice firm shifts on heavy throttle, smooth shift equals more slipping of the clutch packs.

 

What you experienced was not turbo lag, it was throttle lag, the turbo is pretty small and very responsive on these trucks but the tuning is blah. You will find that you have to stab the throttle on these trucks versus just rolling into the throttle.
