newbie Q: which engine

I'm planning to get a 03 Sierra SLE within the month (woohoo!) and I'm not sure which engine to get - 4.8 or the 5.3.

 

I plan to tow a mudder (cj-7) on a trailer at some point. Will the 4.8 be OK? I'd rather as small as possible (for mpg's) but if the mpg difference is small, I may go up..

 

thoughts?

I'd go for the 5.3.  It would be better to have too much than wish you had more.

Spend the extra money on the 5.3L if you have any doubt in your mind...  Sure the 4.8L will do the job, but it's always better to have a little more than not enough.

When I bought my 03 silverado I checked into this.

I believe the difference in MPG is small. Something like 1-2 better in the 4.8. Get the 5.3, I really like mine. You can always make a few mods to make up the MPG.

I have a buddy with the 4.8 in a Silverado 2003 I have a 02 Sierra with the 5.3. I get better gas mileage while towing than he does about We actually get the same mileage during around town driving.

i have the 4.8L GET THE 5.3!!! WISH I WOULD HAVE! ITS A LITTLE WEAK FOR TOWING.

I bought the 6.0 and sometimes wish I had the 8.1. The 6.0 does everything a guy could ask it to do. Go for the power, all you can get.
