New Radio Issue

Here's a new one for you. I drove a few miles and tried to change the radio station using the back steering wheel buttons only to find that my favorites were "currently unavailable". The favorites were present on the radio. When I selected one via the radio, it showed up as available on the DIC. Same thing whether the DIC was in audio mode or not. Check it out.

The infotainment module probably didn't start up fully, just need to kill the truck and start it again so the module will start up.

It didn't reset by killing the engine and opening the door. It had to completely power down. Everything worked normal in the morning when I left for work.

Update - the presets disappeared again. This time I had been on the road for a while and had already changed the station several times. Suddenly they all disappeared. They didn't come back unless I manually changed to that station, just like in the video. Lovely GM gremlins.

Mine did that once. I just unhooked the battery for 10 minutes and when I hooked it back up it was all okay again.

They did the ONSTAR upgrade on it a few days before this. So I'm not sure if something in that install caused the radio issue or not.

Since I re-set it it has never happened again.

My presets have disappeared twice on me and each time they wouldn't come back, had to re-program them in.

this has happened to me once on my 2015 silverado 1500 z71 all i did was restart the truck and everything was back to normal.

So far nothing has been permanent. All the presets are available on the main radio screen, they just disappear from the DIC and I get the unavailable message. They come back at the next startup as long as it's been long enough to let the thing completely reset. Just killing the engine and opening the driver's door doesn't do it. This was the first time they disappeared from the DIC while driving down the road. It makes me wonder if Bill Gates helped design the infotainment system in these trucks.

another thing i noticed with this system is say you have 20 presets and only 5 display at a time on the bottom of the 8" screen, when using the steering wheel controls to scroll through the stations the system will highlight the station until it gets to the last preset on the screen then when you change to the next preset the screen doesn't scroll to the next 5 presets it just leaves the last 5 on the screen even though your on the next page of presets. hope that makes sense its just another little thing of many that bothers me with this truck

My buddy just got a 2016 model and his radio/screen is so much better than my 2014. It is much more touch sensitive and much faster than my radio.

Mine hiccup'd this morning with similar problems. The only steering wheel control button that works with the radio is volume down. Favorites won't change and volume up won't work. Haven't tried again since parking 2 hours ago.

Tried in media mode and the steering wheel buttons changed tracks on the CD, but volume up still didn't work.

It is kinda annoying, but I've gotten used to that. I just have my top 5 saved on the 1st set of favorites for quick access. That said, the ergonomics of the touch screen suck. I'm so used to being able to blindly feel for hard buttons and memorizing their locations by feel to operate radio and HVAC controls. I HAVE to look at the screen to change anything beyond the first and last favorites. And the scroll from page to page of favorites is horribly slow on the '14. I wonder if the '15+ has better performance.

If it didn't require losing all the vehicle customization, I'd really consider a Kenwood or similar head unit. They just work. It's kinda like Apple vs Msft.

my touch screen very responsive not really any issues once it didn't load all stations and the issue where the highlighted station doesn't keep going to all the stations once you get beyond the first 5 presets so other then that id say they updated something for the 15's

    • Can ask that about a lot of places.   Holiday sells 91 for $1 over 87 octane. BP 93 is 80 cents. Amoco 93 is 80 cents Kwik Trips is $1.20 for 92 or whatever they have and $1 for the 91.   I know that this is not exactly same as what you are saying with the premium to premium debate of those two stations but why is there such a difference. Top Tier this and that, it's all BS. All the fuel comes from the same damn refinery, so give me a break.
    • Why does Mobil Premium cost 90 cents a gallon more than Shell Premium when their regular offerings are but pennies apart?
    • Was all the way down to $3.69 a gallon but then jumped back to $3.99 just because for some reason.   Diesel floats between $4.80's to $5.10ish a gallon. I even saw Diesel #1 for $6.09 today but nobody in there right mind even buys that in the summer.
    • Mine just keeps lagging or getting stuck on the reverse camera. When I turn off the truck, get out, and close the door it will still stay on. It’s very intermittent and I would not be able to duplicate the issue.
    • I was checking out fuel prices at my farm fuel retailer at their pumps and yes the farm price is a bit lower than the non dyed fuel and was glad to see that the regular farm gas price has dropped a lot from what it had been but what blew me away was the price of diesel as the spread now compared to before the prices went up earlier in the year, diesel was actually slightly lower than gas which was a switch from the theme the last number of years. However that sure isn't the theme lately and definitely not right now. The prices I will post are not from that retailer but just looking at gasbuddy for the main city in this area and instead of posting the lowest price someone found I will list the higher price ( and that may not be the highest price, just whatever someone posted on gasbuddy ).   So regular gas and there are a lot of stations listing the same price for regular is 1.68 a liter, premium 2.00 a liter. Diesel 2.03 a liter for a top price I saw on diesel.   Figures out to 6.36 a us gallon Canadian funds for regular and 7.68 for diesel. With the US exchange rate it would be 4.58 us for regular and 5.53 for diesel.    Thought I would figure that out to get a picture of what it settles out like compared to various US prices and its about the same as the current price in Fairbanks AK as Anchorage tends to be lower. So yes, these would be the prices and higher along the way on the Alaska highway where they know they have a captured market !, for fuel prices for those beginning the long drive back to the lower 48   The problem is our Canadian dollar and going to the states that have the high prices, boy do we pay then !
