Do you notice a harsher ride with the Sumo's?

Not at all.  They are a cellular foam type fo thing that offers progressive resistance and actually absorb a lot of shock.  When I have a major load in the bed, it is almost like having air bags.

My 2016 Denali 2500HD Crew cab 4x4 STD bed Duramax has the 11.5" rear end and has cross member braces welded across the differential  bottom the same as the 3500. I'm just adding air bags to level it. The drive train should be the same on all Duramax. I'm planning on towing a 12-16000 lb 5th wheel RV. GM states 14000 lb is Max. Not likely to tow fully loaded.
