holschuh11 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I purchased a 2006 escalade that the owner had lost the key, how hard and expensive would it be to replace the ignition switch without the key? Or could i have a locksmith make a key for the factory ignition? My 2006 silverado doesn't have a chip in the key so im assuming neither does the escalade? Thanks for any help!!
Cosmic Charlie Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 No Chip Keys till 2007 ... so this says Dealer can have a key made from the VIN (with whoever the name is on the title provided ...) Locksmith may not have the GM code for the original key pattern (?) http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-forum/t-46569.html
holschuh11 Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 ok thanks, i talked to the local dealership this evening. They said $60 for a new key. Not bad considering it would probably require a locksmith to tear apart the column to get a new one made. Said just to bring title in my name and drivers license. Thanks for the input!
