Question for Oshawa, Ontario employees

Does the Silverado & Sierra both come down the same assembly line, then just have the front clips, taillights, emblems, etc. added as they go along.  This has been a question that I have had for a while now.

Anyway, keep up the good work at the Oshawa plant. You sure have a good reputation for quality and the 2003 GMC Sierra that I own shows that it was assembled by caring workers. Thanks.  :thumb:  :thumb:

Still no replies from anyone at the Oshawa truck plant. Does anyone else know if both the Silverado and the Sierra are built on the same assembly line? I pretty much think they are the same truck with just the front clip, taillights, emblems, etc. being different. :chevy:

My '03 Sierra came from Ft.Wayne Indiana. I would not be suprised if they didn't. When I got out of school in '86 I worked at the Clark Street plant in Detroit. We had Cad. Feetwoods, Olds. Deluxe Custom Cruiser Wagons, and Chev. Caprices all going down the same line.

my 00 silverado was built in fort wayne and i test drove a new sierra friday which was made at the fort wayne plant.

SO both the sierras and silverados are made at the fort wayne plant and there is a very good chance it is the same elsewhere

Both my '00 Silverado and my '01 Tahoe were both built in Arlington, Texas. Does anybody have a GMC product from Arlington, Texas?

Well, after much searching on the net, I think Ryan is right. Maybe my Silverado wasn't made in Arlington. I know there is a sticker inside the driver's side door of my Tahoe that says it was made in Arlington and I could have sworn there is the same sticker inside the door of my Silverado. I would check but I drive the Tahoe and the Silverado is with my wife at her work.

I can remember saying to my wife that the Tahoe was built the same place as our Silverado because of the sticker in the door.

In any case, I guess I am mistaken. I will check when I get home tonight. Sorry for any confusion.

Live in Dallas - Arlington, TX builds the Yukon, Tahoe, Denali and Escalade I believe - they don't build the longer versions (Sub, YukonXL).

My 2000 and 2003 Sierra were both built in Oshawa, Canada. About 99..9% sure the Silverados come down the same assembly line. There are some RPO codes that tell it which badging and parts to get. Those are listed inside the glove box - one of mine is Z88 - it is listed as "Conversion name plate - GMC"

Thanks guys for the replies. I was just curious about the two trucks. NO problems so far, very good trucks. :chevy::cheers:

Well, the Silverado SS is made in Oshawa. So, i would assume other Silverados' are made there as well!

You might want to try to ask the guys over at SilveradoSS.com (one of our sister sites), becase there are a few of the plant guys who post over there! :chevy:

Thanks Mervz,

I also check the posts on the SilveradoSS site daily. So far though I haven't posted the question about the trucks. By the replies I have received here, it is pretty much apparent that both trucks are built on the same line in all three plants. As I said before, my Oshawa built Sierra has been a great truck, so far.

Also, you guys with the Silverado SS's - good luck with your sharp looking trucks. I planned on buying one until I saw the prices. Maybe next time........:eek:

GMC's and Chevrolet's go down the same assembly lines. LD Pickups are made in Oshawa, Ontario, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Pontiac, Michigan. HD Pickups are made in Pontiac, Michigan and Flint, Michigan. Tahoes/Yukons and Suburbans/Yukon XL's are made in Janesville, Wisconsin and Arlington, Texas. Cadillac Escalades are made in Arlington, Texas. Chevrolet Avalanche, Suburban/Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade EXT and ESV are made in Silao, Mexico. Yukon Denali and Yukon Denali XL are made in Janesville, Wisconsin. That should cover the GMT800 platform...

Well SpiritoftheWild that sure covers all the trucks. It answers all my questions, and will probably answer others who were also curious about where their vehicles were made. Thanks for the info.

 F.Y.I the trucks come down the same assembly line & the tell tale parts are added as they go down the line! We build the H/D at the Pontiac East plant in Pontiac, Mi. & ALL CREW CABS are built at the Flint,Mi. plant. You vin # tells where your truck is built. If the 1st# is a 1 it is built in the U.S.A. 2, it was built in Oshawa, Ont. & #3 = Mexican built. Otherwise look at the 11th # to see where your truck is built! B= Baltimore, E= Pontiac,Mi., F= Flint,Mi., G=Silao/New Mexico, J=Jamesville,Wi.,K=Linden,NJ.,R= Arlington,Tx.,Z=Fort Wayne,In., 1= Oshawa, Ont., 2= Moraine,Oh.,7= Lordstown,Oh., 8= Shreveport, La.
