If you are talking about your 2010 then I'm not sure what you mean by "premature". If it's a factory bulb then it's 6 years old, that's a pretty good run for a bulb that's used extensively.

If he got 6 years from the factory bulb, I'd be looking for a case of them if I were him. I have a 2010 also, and have changed the bulbs on mine 4 times since 2010.

2010 GMC headlight problem

I replaced the left low beam in October, then again in February, then again in March. What could be causing them to burn out so quickly?

I have had to replace the connector in the headlight housing pretty regularly due to overheating pretty regularly.

 

Is the bulb truly bad or is the connector arcing and causing an intermittent connection, cured temporarily by a new bulb.

 

Inspect that connection carefully.

The filament is always burnt in two and the connector looks fine
