4 wheel drive service light

I was drive along yesterday when my DIC pop up with a service 4 wheel drive message. Every thing seem fine on my 2001 k2500 ld . I stoped check out 4 wheel drive buttons(i have autotrac) and every thing worked fine. Put the truck back in 2 wheel drive and continued to drive. When I turned the truck off then restarted the message was gone. The message has not return all weekend. I plan on taking it to the dealer to have them check it out. I need to take a 800 mile trip this week first. What do you all think? Will it be ok. any help would great. ??? ???

That switch has a history of going bad and causing the Service 4X4 light to come on. I don't know that it would leave you stranded completely, but you may not be able to shift from 2wd to 4wd and back, which could be a problem if you rally need it. Most have replaced the switch and fixed the problem. If it's under warranty, have the dealer look at it at fix it for free. :thumb:

My brother's truck did the same thing...he drove on it for a month or 2 with the light on. He was able to shift it into 4WD most of the time...if you can't get it to work just tinker with it and it will. You might have to turn the truck off and then back on to cycle the system. But, you should be fine on your road trip...his was nothing mechanical, just the stupid switch gone bad.
