2010 5.3L Silverado Oil Pressure Alerts

We use our truck for recreative purposes only so we don't drive it a lot and/or regularly. Recently it started throwing off OIL PRESSURE LOW SHUT OFF ENGINE alerts seemingly randomly. Sometimes we'd drive around for half an hour without any problems, and other times the alert would come on after merely five minutes. So we took it in to the shop where they replaced some sort of oil pressure sensor which, unfortunately, did nothing to address this obnoxious alarm. Now we even got a "check engine" light pop up and when I connect the code reader it states something about the oil pressure sensor. (I can provide the exact code/message if that's of help.)The truck drives completely fine, as smooth as can be, and I notice absolutely no difference with the alarm being on or off.

My question: Is this a serious problem and are we putting our drivetrain at risk or is this just an electronic hiccup that we can safely procrastinate dealing with? We shelled out a considerable chunk of money to have the sensor replaced and aren't readily inclined to do so again after it did absolutely nothing for us. It may also be time to find a new mechanic ...

Watch this youtube video, there is a screen under the sensor that is probably clogged on yours and need to be replaced. I'd bet you have good oil pressure and engine is fine, however screen is preventing the gauge to read and therefore computer thinks you have no oil pressure. I'd order a new screen and it should hopefully fix your problem.

it will be around 40 for the duration, and then suddenly drop to below 10 which is when the alarm goes off. I haven't been able to isolate any particular pattern that might cause the drop. The only thing I have noticed is that acceleration usually bumps the oil pressure up slightly and that the drop will occur when I stay at a constant speed, i.e. cruising on the highway. Once the pressure gauge has dropped off, acceleration cannot bring the pressure back however. Thanks for your help guys
