Lift install - Frame cutting involved?

In this video, two guys are installing a lift on an 09 2500HD and they are cutting parts of the front diff area in order to install the new drop bracket. Is this cutting common for lift kit installs? And what about the 14+ models?

Yes, you must cut!

 

I recommend a leveling kit with bigger tires. Keep your mileage, power, and gearing.

Any questions on level or tires just post up your question, cutting for a lift isn't the biggest problem in the world, I don't like cutting either but once it is cut, cleaned up, primed-painted-undercoated all is well.

This truck is my first ever brand new, off the lot vehicle. I already feel guilty for leveling & larger tire/wheels. It is covered bumper to bumper for 5 years, and I'll be paying on it till I drop, so maybe after 5 yrs I'll revisit the idea of a lift.
