Catylitic coverts

I had my catylitic converter replaced on my 14' Sierra. Has anyone else had theirs serviced for the legitimate reason? I was told it was because my Airaid Jr. intake that caused the failure. Which is b/s.

never heard of that one, but i know for sure that catalytic converters can get clogged, or broken inside then clogged.

however the matter of an intake being the culprit is unfamiliar to me.

 

can you describe the symptoms your truck had?

also is there a pre- cat. converter sensor?

My converter has a non-penetrating/failed weld around half the joint between one of the pipes. I showed the dealer service manager the crack and they told me it doesn't leak so they won't replace it. It even has a paint mark like it was identified at the manufacturer and yet made it on the truck.They tested it with soap at idle and no bubbles were seen, so it must no leak. I doubt they even considered that it may actually have vacuum and pull air in, which would throw off O2 counts and make this run rich.

There is no way it is going to pull in that much air to throw off the pre-cat O2 sensor. The pre-cat sensor is the only one that directly tells the ECM how rich/lean the exhaust is. There is also no way a CAI kit would kill a catalytic convertor, that is a dealer trying to grab at something. GM offers and sells an upgraded CAI kit now on their own site, dealer and service writers need to get a grip and quit trying to make excuses for things that go wrong.
