Infinity Kappa Speakers

I've heard alot of you saying that the Infinity Kappa speakers add alot to the stock head unit. Is this true for just the component system (model 60.5cs) or is it true for the less expensive and easier to install 2-way and 3-way speakers models 62.5i or 63.5i for the front doors, and 652.5i for the rear doors of my crewcab?

I've found these speakers online for about 60% of the "Crutchfield" price, and if all it takes is a simple swap for some better sound, then I will probably buy them...

I have the 4x6 plates in my rear doors, and they are great.

I have never had their components, but Infiniti is a pretty safe bet for good sound...Actually, anything is a safe bet over factory speakers...Yes, even the Bose.

I used the older 60.5 components in my 2002. I believe the 2-way and 3-ways would also be a drastic improvement... I'm going to reinstall these speakers in my 2003 and pull the stock Bose speakers out.

I'm sure the 60.5's would be great, but I don't really want to spend the time wiring in the components. I'm sure that's the way to go, and I can get them for about $165 plus S&H. I think a set of them up front, and the 652.5i in the rears would be awesome!!! But I'm looking for an easy way out!!!

(And maybe an amp) Speaking of which what would be a good/cheap amp to fire all four speakers?

I have the 4x6 plates in my rear doors. I don't have them hooked up through my amp though, that's used for the front door pioneers and the sub under the rear seat. The 4x6's don't produce nearly any bass, but they do help fill the cab with sound. I can notice it when I have them off.

How ya doin Shaners?

BTW - I think they are 462.3i or something like that.

Remember with component speakers you can loose quite a bit of the low end sound. I replaced all the factory speakers with components in both my truck and the fiance's truck. Infinity in mine and RF in hers. Both sound great but you really need to add a subwooffer or mid bass if you want great sound.

If you want an easy swap out that will sound good, I would look at the three way speakers. Components also require wiring in a passive crossover which will require a little more juice to the speakers. That's just my experience anyway.

I put the Kappa Components in the front and the plates in the back. Sounded great over factory setup. Had to add a 10' JL sub to really get the bass. Overall I love them but the cramic tweeters are way way too bright for me, even with changing the jumpers on the xovers. Thinking of changing the kappa fronts to the wife's 4runner and getting something else more 'normal' Any suggestions? Diamonds, Polks?

TIA!

If i could do it again, and i might , id prolly go for the Polk MM6's with the Silk Dome Tweeter.

Now, i havent auditioned these but i have listened to Polks home theater stuff and think they make great speakers.

Im pretty sure Polks silk tweets arent as bright as Infinity's aluminum tweets.

    • I don't wanna do major surgery/upgrades, behind-the-dash work, add amps, change radio etc. on my '26 std cab WT. On the WT, it has the base 7" IOR infotainment setup, and only two speakers (doors). Since I listen to classical, looked around for speakers that do well and dug thru reviews. Two-way speakers were found to be better than 3-way. So I've ordered a pair of  Infinity Reference REF-9632IX 2 way speakers.  [These may  or may not have been discontinued / succeeded by the 3-way ...9633 ones.]    These speakers are lauded for 3 ohm and 94db sensitivity spec so they'll work well for ordinary base car radios without amps and offer better performance (quality,  strength) than  default base paper-cone speakers. They'll be installed in a few days and I'll let y'all know what I think. Bill W San Jose
    • Thanks!   Changed out the rear shocks today to Bilstein 5100s.  So far feel much better. The stock Rancho were wore out.  Lots of heavy hauling (2 moves, home renovations, etc).  Next up is new BFG tires Monday.  Cant wait the current tires have little to no wet traction and are super loud (hum)
    • Ok, I got the all the codes. What do you all think would be a place to start?
    • How about I just point to the factory pans stand pipe little drain plug and claim its a pan with a real drain plug !. I just couldn't swallow the fact that a Dorman pan which at this point is probably the only pan out there that fits the gas version truck cost that much up here in Canada so I decided initially anyway to skip it and see what I thought of pulling the pan method and down the road if I felt inclined enough then I would either install a drain plug kit in the factory pan if there is enough room for it, or have a bung welded onto it, or put an aftermarket pan on. The thing is if the pan is not pulled then the magnets in the pan can't be inspected and cleaned or if wanting to change out the filter. However of course it certainly would make the job easier to be able to drop the oil first before having to handle the pan if dropping the pan that go around was the goal.    I knew a guy locally that was doing custom field spraying years ago with a pickup pulling a ground driven sprayer, I believe it was a GM pickup with an automatic trans. He had a drain plug in his pan and would drop the oil out of it once a week and top it back up through the dipstick tube to keep refreshing a portion of the oil often and that made the transmission last far longer than had he done nothing. Soft fields pulling 500 gallons of water at the start of each mixed up sprayer tank batch and in low range sucking along. I imagine he got some tips from other custom sprayer outfits doing the same thing at the time and learning from their blown up tranny mistakes. Transmissions then had no lock up converter so would cook the crap out of the fluid slipping that much and it would not have been synthetic fluid either.
