SMiller, does the 3500 ride quite a bit rougher when unladen?

Without plow prep no not really, the front handles larger bumps better, the rear makes zero difference as the overloads never touch unless you are squatting the truck 3in. and at that point you will be glad to have the extra spring.

The 10,000 GVWR option is to keep light truck operators out of CMV territory. If the vehicle is used in commerce crossing the 10,001lb GVW threshold for a single unit can turn into an expensive headache.
