Replacing Stock Speakers

Recommended Posts

I am looking at replacing the stock units in my Suburban. I have what looks like a 6-1/2" and a tweeter in each front door, apparently the rear doors have some 6-3/4 units in there. I have the woofer and the rear tweeters in the rear door frame pillars.

What can I put in the doors? If I go component, does the fixed crossover go?In the door?? Or, should I go with a really good 2 or 3 way unit? What is my depth?

Ditto rear doors. Can I use 4x6 or 4x10 speakers and what is the advantage of them if any/ Will they fit?? Again, what is my depth?

I have a couple of amps and am comfortable with how I will use them. Really just wondering about the door units.

depending on the amp output I would go with component speakers front and rear. The crossovers will fit in the doors but remote might not be a bad idea. Depth isnt really an issue

well if you stick them in the doors there is the possibility that they may get wet. I put mine in the doors, zip tied them just below the speaker. On my 01 extended cab I had them remote. Mounted the left front just above the kick panel and the right behind the glove box. Used a 12" piece of solid #8 copper wire I had laying around, taped the speaker wires to one end about 3" in and then used the other end to work it though the rubber boot. You can see when it hits the boot then just bend it a little and repeat takes about 2 minutes start to finish.

I just bolted mine to the inside of the door, about 6" up from the bottom. If I get in water that deep, the last thing on my mind will be my door speakers.
