Custom LED Reverse Lights

Well with tinted windows, and soon to be tinted taillights, I needed something that was much brighter than stock.

I figured 900 lumens each should do the trick.

I didn't want to add LED cubes under the bumper. I like the clean, sleek look and didn't want anything hanging below the bumper. So I came up with this.

Firstly, I bought the Mini LED cubes from superbrightled.

Specs on the lights: 2x2 inches

60 Degree beam pattern

10 W

900 Lumens each

6500K color temp

I traced the light size out on the taillight and cut the square with a dremel. This allowed the light to sit down inside the housing a bit. Then I just glued the lights in with PL Premium Construction Adhesive. Plenty strong!

To wire them up. I tapped into the reverse light wire on my trailer package. I was going to tie right into the reverse light at the taillight, however the trailer reverse lights is separately fused. (lime green/white wire) I just ran a ground down to the frame. The light came with male and female waterproof connector so when i want to remove the taillight, the reverse light has a quick disconnect as well.

I just removed the bulb from the stock reverse light, put dielectric grease in the socket and taped it off with electrical tape.

I am extremely happy with them. Would recommend this mod to anyone who is willing to cut up their stock taillights haha

They are awesome at night. I will upload some night pictures soon. Never got a chance to take some. But they are awesome.

Are the tail lights a hassle to remove. I'd just look but the wife has the truck.

Only 2 screws hold the tail lights in. Easiest thing to do.

How does the camera look at night?

I was also worried that it was going to effect the camera because they are so bright. However, it didnt effect it that much. The camera goes whiter/lighter, however you can still see fine.

It really doesn't change it that much.
