Condensate in lights.

I have a 2015 gmc I have aftermarket anzo lights.

 

I have three small a holes drilled into the light underneath it because it had condensate issues when first put it. It is my 2cnd pair. I do not have condensate issues when I wash the truck only when I drive in the rain. I recently had HIDs put in the kit from retrofit... The right does not condensate only the left. Could the installation be the issue? Even if the other light does not have this problem?

 

Also any tips on what else I can do to fix this? Should I drill more holes or what?

 

I've been toying with buying new lights. Prolly recon but I don't want to do that if I can avoid it. I like the anzos I just don't want the condensate issue anymore...

If I followed this correctly the holes you drilled did not help at all and I'm not surprised. Use some sealant to fill in the holes and then seal the edges of the assembly where the lens and the backing meet. Any holes or cracks will allow condensation.

Put some of those absorbing gel packs in their. That cleared up mine

The shop I had install the lights previously before drilling these holes said the places an air hose I tot he light and turned it on, this way they can see where the seal is not sealed at. Said that everything looked great and found nothing... Suggested I put holes in the lights so I did.

I suppose to seal in the dust cap with the HIDs installed?

 

And the asorbing gel packs I'm afraid would get too hot.

 

Other suggestions? Please?

Ive had mine in for months. No problems, you can even put them in the oven to dry them out. So they're fine in the headlights

Ya, I just tied some string to them just in case they didn't go farther back.

If you have holes drilled the desiccant bags won't cure the condensation issue. Also, any other leaks where wires pass thru are an avenue for moisture to enter.

 

My recommendation is to check all possible moisture entry paths and ensure they are sealed. The holes you drilled should get a small patch of GoreTex glued around the edges. Once you've done this, the desiccant should clear up the trapped moisture.

Alright I'll get the holes sealed up. I was told that is the solution. Like I said the left one only fogs up when I drive in the rain not when I wash it.

 

How often do I need to replace these gel bags?

Shouldn't really need to replace them. There is an indicater on them that turns blue when they have moisture in them. Then you just pop them in the oven to dry out and reuse them. I haven't had to take mine out yet.

What aftermarket lights do you have?

Do I hang the string out the dust cap?

I just have stock lights. Yes just bring the string out the dust cap and screw the cap back on with a bit of string hanging out.

    • These show the problem and symptoms, and I explain things too. to clarify again, I did not change over any computers or wiring (with the exception of the map sensor). All of the computers and wiring are original to the 2010 vehicle   video 1 - background info/explanation and part of the problem   video 2, idle misfire   I think the reason that the MAP sensor is reading High is because the engine is misfiring so there is less vacuum...   Additionally there's a p0102 for the MAF low frequency, and a p0108 for the map high voltage.        Again, apologies for the somewhat long-winded explanation, it's a rather difficult problem to explain without going into the details.

    • I have a 2019 new body style high country with a 6.2l L87 and a 10 speed transmission code MQB. Looking for a disabler that is compatible. Most show it’s not. I watched a video on utube from Dons Life that says Ranges RA003B is compatible but when you go to Ranges website and check compatibility it only has a 8L90 trans listed which is an 8 speed.  I don’t want to buy the wrong one. Anyone have any experience with this situation?
    • This actually happened. Be careful where you get your information re: gas price trends.  
    • I understand the principle...you don't want to spend $150 for a $0.02 piece of plastic or a little screw and perch thingy.   But this is a problem that looks like it can be reliably solved with a zip tie.   That might hold you over until you can score one at a pick-a-parts yard.
